thank you for pointing this out - I was looking just a few days ago and only the $600+ type came up.

Now that second camera body will have to wait for a really big sale. Meanwhile, lenses hold their value, right?

Glad you got it because it was such a good price I was thinking about pulling a John Hinkey and adding a 2nd one.

Scott that's an amazing photo. The 18mm really shines with great detail and color. I can see why you love this lens!
John I really like the photo of the birds on the roofline. Great eye for spotting this and even more for capturing.
Peter congrats on the new lens. I think you are going to love it. It is one of my favorite lenses!

A sad Sedan DeVille (I think it's a '68) parked in front of our post office. It's become quite a conversation piece and no one seems to know how it got there. I might just start a rumor that it was purchased by the city council as street art.

Welcome to the 16/3.5 FE club for the second time - hopefully this one will be a keeper! Looking forward to seeing the images from this lens your capable hands.

135/2 AIS.

Thank you Ray. I like it as much or better than the 20 3.5 ais plus it gives me just a bit more angle of view.

Went looking for fall colors, we get little, there is one tree in the back that turns yellow and loses all leaves, not sure what kind of tree this is, the rest of the plants just ignore the season..... actually this is not totally true, the black eucalyptuses drop entire branches after it rains in fall, not just leaves.

Scott, your Amtrak-shot is very dynamic, the 18mm works great here. German trains are much more streamlined looking, lacking the "brute power face" of the Amtrak-loco.

John, very nice and moody harbour-scenes with your 135/2! Hard to pick a fav, maybe "Just standin' around"

Jeff, the "Sedan DeVille" is beautifully captured! The poor car might qualify as "street art" indeed - it is showing the glorious aura of an old boxer with many scars and cuts, but still a lot of physical and will-power inside ;-)

Philippe, thanks for your explanation about traditional shops in France. We have many fake "Antik"-shops here, selling stuff from "country-home-kitsch" to nice old stuff. Really traditional, family-operated stores are rare in East-Germany, probably the result of the sad years behind the Iron Curtain.
I like your second shot with the 28/2.8 too - the contrast between the cozy interior and the cold and wet outside is captured in an exemplary fashion ;-)

Rafael, ouch, the Eucalyptus-branch looks massive (especially with the stools close by). Love the contrasting colors of the second shot.

Got another MF-Nikkor yesterday. Lost bids on a 25-50/4 and a late model PC 35/2.8, but had luck with a pretty low bid on an already Ai'd Nikkor-Q Auto 135/2.8. I have basically no need to get another 135, but had my eyes on several budget-priced pre-Ai-models.
Getting a not very rare lens from overseas doesn't make much sense because of shipping-costs and additional import-duties (not to speak of the hassle to deal with the customs).

Anyway, here are some first tries with it, shots while killing some spare time:

135/2.8Q at f/4, D700 - it works to shoot rear-views of soccer players ;-)

just a visual crime scene von georgsfoto auf Flickr
Just a "visual crime" scene at one of the many soccer-fields here - 135/2.8Q wide open, D700

flare well von georgsfoto auf Flickr
the 135/2.8Q was a bit challenged in the flare-department, but is in good company of my other 135mm-lenses

it works for mermaid-portraiture too von georgsfoto auf Flickr
135/2.8Q wide open - it should make a nice portrait-lens

Unbenannt von georgsfoto auf Flickr
135/2.8Q wide open - I really like it's bokeh so far (enhanced here a bit with the structures-slider)

Peter, congrats to your 16/3.5! I really hope it will be in better shape than your first copy.

Jeff, thanks for your thoughts about the different-boat-treadments. As far as I know it's not possible to adjust the grain with the help of control-poinst directly. It might work to lower the fine-structures or to work with grain/no-grain-layers.

I have tried most of the 135/2.8's (all except the earlier ones than the Q and the Series E), and I love the Q the best for the reasons you posted, beautiful bokeh. Looks like you got a really nice copy. I have two of them, one in great shape glass wise, the other in great shape mechanically. I make due with the great glass (the focus ring is stiff) but I really like it.

This is the only time in my life I have seen a sunset rainbow. it was dark.

28mm PC fully open. Very sharp. and 15mm 3.5 ais that takes the whole rainbow in and more. There was a light double rainbow. It was mostly a red rainbow as the other colors had left for the day.
