Chin - have a nice trip to Japan! Nice classical lens-set, should cover most situations. Will you shoot film and digital or bring "just one" camera?

Georg that small boat moored looks fantastic either grainy or sharp .... I actually like both renditions.

Nice catch on the rainbow Jay

Ray .... you are having fun aren't you .... specially with that 16mm ... sharp ...

Great war-plane shot too Scott

Nice to see Curtis popping in to lend a hand and keep us mere mortals on our toes !!!

And praise to Leighton again for his unstinting work in keeping us motivated.

Steve

I went out to deliver some tea this morning and decided to take the long country route back.

Took the D700 and a couple of lenses

Decided to try and capture the Lancashire hills with the sun dappled on them .... but instead a hail storm blew in ...

So with the 25-50mm f4 @ f8 on ISO200

This is a 10 shot portrait pano taken at about 12 noon today at Ribchester the site of a 1st century Roman encampment and bath house.

Down in the village of Ribchester there is a 16th century pub, The Whit Bull

It seemed rude not to take a picture of two.

D700 + 105mm f2.5 Ai-s @ f8 on ISO200

Even the steps up to horse height are still there .....

We do have some fascinating history nearby.

Chin sounds like a great kit to take. Make sure you leave enough room in the bag to bring a new addition home. Never know what you might find there.

Thanks again Leighton, Scott and Jay! The small boat was shot on a very dull afternoon, there were no highlights (in terms of dynamic range) on the water or boat. That's why I tamed the contrast a bit, to keep the november-mood.

Here's a subject with lots of highlights - for stuff like this I prefer conversions without excessive grain. The picture itself is not very good - oldtimer-meetings are too cramped for my taste and "clean" shots of single exhibits rarely possible.

I agree with you here Georg. Nicely converted.

Steve, I like this street scene a lot. Neat old building and sign.

Thank you for the warplane image comment.

Very interesting discussion re grain. From my film days I remember how hard we tried to avoid grain by using film like Panatomic X which as I recall was ASA25!!

Now that we have the means to produce nearly flawless images there's a move to add grain while at the same time we hate noise?

Clearly this is a case of to each his own! Personally I like "noise free" images as far as possible but live with my equipment's apparent limitations - most of them are mine.

Ray - the "station" images are lovely even if the ticket seller looks a bit slow

Steve - you make Manchester look like a good place to visit! Really nice shots.

Jay - great capture

Peter, the last shot of your garden-series is wonderful! Love the framing and the colors.

Ray, nice set from the station-center! The mighty overseas-suitcase on the luggage-trolley is a nice blast from the past. My personal fav is the last shot.

Steve, the "White Bull" is for sure worth a picture! Cool details like the mentioned steps. Thanks for sharing. It's really sad that pubs with a history like the "White Bull" don't write autobiographies

Thanks for the well wishes. I wish I had the time to plan the trip out
All I have now is a printed screenshot of Tokyo from Google Maps and a bunch of asterisk marks on them
No idea what the proper sequence will be like
I also just managed to secure my airbnb accommodation for the first 2 nights…

I avoided plotting my itinerary to wander the streets selling second-hand lenses, I fear the temptation may be too much
And in return, brokered the deal with my wife to avoid visiting Sanrio Hello Kitty Puroland
(Though admittedly I’ve been dreaming of the Nikon Multiphot I posted a few pages back, brrr)
I will be avoiding the touristy stuff though, my friend gave me a tip on an old people suburb
Nothing but, with all stores and amenities catered towards them

As for lenses, I will be making a trip up some skyscraper for the night view I mentioned, I hope the 28/2.8 will do okay
Also rationalised its close-focus ability should let me get away with bringing my 60G macro for food or other close ups
The 28 and the 135 are new to me so there’s a somewhat childish urge to put them through the paces
Only the D700 will go along with me (even if the old film camera would fit so well in that suburb), keeping fingers crossed

looks like this thread needs a bump - 14 hours since last post?

all I got here is a somewhat soft monopod moon shot from a few days ago, but it was pretty orange. 600mm f/4.0 AIS on D600 with the TC-16a again

All of the talk earlier about the 135mm 2.0 gave me an idea to try out my 85mm 1.4 with the TC-14A. This gives a 120mm F2 lens. Although it's not a direct replacement of the 135 it does give some nice bokeh.

Ray, that looks really good. Would you mind posting some more photos made with that combination of lens and converter? Could be a valid alternative for a 135 f2,8, even if it costs a bit more to obtain both pieces of the puzzle.
