when at your favourite theater bring this

nikon nikkor 50-300 ed ais san diego coronado world dance festival d800 by Rafael CA, on Flickr

and even at iso 6400 and the lens fully open, you will get this

nikon nikkor 50-300mm 1.2 dia de los muertos CCA D800 by Rafael CA, on Flickr

at this level of detail, granted you must take Rafael's short course on how to make friends and manually focus to perfection

That is an excellent shot ... it's quite emotional for some reason.

The Df is intriguing, but really only for the D4 sensor in it, I do event photography and the D800 is just too many pixels, too much time processing. Looks pretty, but I would far prefer the D4 sensor in a D800 Body. I love my F and F2s, but a digital camera is a digital camera and the ergonomics of my D3 or D800 are first class for digital photography.

This is Nikon's publicity photo, note the 55 1,2, one of our favourite lenses. Curious that they processed this photo with such harsh contrast

It does look lovely with that lens attached Rafael.

I don't know what to think of this camera. Part of me loves it and part of me wishes it was a little bit more ... or maybe a lot more

I'm hoping it is a success as they might build V2 of it in a year or so and give the people what they want ... including interchangeable VF's etc. Nikon aren't exactly Fuji-like when it comes to listening to customers so I'm not holding my breath.

While I would have rathered the 36MP sensor, I could happily live with 16MP, but too many other features seem crippled on purpose like the D600. The D600 I can understand at it's price point, but the Df is at a whole different price level and I feel it should of had more focus points and a faster shutter at the very least. Probably a better AF system as well.

I will take my 50/1.2 down to my local camera shop and try it out though just to see how it feels. Who knows ... it may feel perfect with these lenses mounted on it.

Royston, I like your leaves-shot a lot. Great idea, I just have mixed feelings about your processing. But that might be just a matter of personal taste.

Rafael, I'l love to attend your focusing-course. The make-up-portrait is wonderful, I prefer it over the angled version a few pages back. The 55/1.2's gentle skin-rendering is perfect for this kind of work.

I saw the moon on the way home and wanted to take a shot, but the darn thing was so low in the sky, I couldn't get an angle from home and really didn't feel like driving anywhere to get a shot. Wouldn't have had a foreground like yours anyway Nice one. Usually around here you only see the bright part of the moon, but yesterday it was so clear that even the dark part had detail in it. Now I somewhat regret for not trying. Cool shot, although it looks like you got some clipping between dark and bright parts of the moon - result of the processing?

Chickpiper, what a wonderfully captured landscape! The water looks really 3-dimensional, a great effect. I wonder how this stream might look like in the spring. Hope you'll share more of your work here.
Georg
Btw: just saw your Nettar-shot from a few months back. A great image of this fine camera, have one of this affordable and well performing gems too.

Ray, your flag-shot is very nicely done! I like the folding you've caught. The colors, light and contrast works really great here.

Jeff, your moonstruck is a really fine piece of art. Love your choice of framing. Without clouds this image would have much less impact.
Saw the sickle this evening too, but couldn't find a proper foreground. I've thought about putting the sickle between the gables of some old buildings, but the gables had not enough light on "my side".

Here's an image that I would call a "photographic note". While killing some spare time in the evening hours I took a look at some possible subjects, but found either the light or the background uninspiring.
This "door", a side-entrance to the local city hall, was re-created this year (the "ensemble" around the old door). I for my part like the combination of old and new here.
The ambient light was already on a very low level, shot a frame, but will probably re-shoot this one with a better mix of ambient and interior-light.

Thanks all for the kind comments on the crescent moon shot.

Peter, I appreciate your thoughts about the brightness in the crescent. Actually, the NEF image came out pretty hot in that area and the PP reduced it, but you're right, it's still a little over the line on the edges of the crescent. I'm going to play with some local adjustments tonight and see how they look. Thanks.

Georg, great idea for a shot using the crescent moon and features of an older building. Our architecture is mostly "newish" and not terribly interesting, but some of our Victorian style houses and Spanish Mission structures might be nice. Your shot of the old City Hall door and the sidewalk and street pavers is terrific. What a great subject!

OK last day of the muertos posting, I know we like to post tamer subjects, but understand that this event is truly a celebration of those we had and are no longer with us, first, and second an expression of faith in life beyond the confines of our current embodiment.
