Ok folks, need some advice. I don't see me getting into FX anytime soon and finally want something wide. I know a ton here love the 16/3.5, but I am not a fan of fisheye lenses. What else is good? I would like to stick with Nikon, but I won't limit myself. I am looking for good value for dollar, I don't have deep pockets. I will be looking to get one after the 55/1.2.

I am going to be culling the herd soon, some lenses I just don't use enough to warrant keeping. I hope to have my buy/sell next week, but I will advertise here first. With the exception of one focal length, I won't be doubling up.

Nothing in the manual lenses is really wide on DX that is any achievable price. Maybe a sigma 10-20 if you really want wide.

That is kind of what I am finding. I am supposed to be getting a box of nikon gear soon and it might have a wide in it, but I already know most of what is in there needs help. If memory serves, I think there is a 20mm in there, but it has been a while.

I agree with Ray as well, it's not as easy to find value in the wide end of the MF world for DX

yes but 20mm is 30mm on dx .....So a sigma 10-20 is equal 15 to 30mm on dx.which is Wider than I have on FX (18-35mm)

if you may go FX at some point, not much will beat a Rokinon/Samyang/Bower 14mm f/2.8

there isn't anything even remotely as sharp in the old Nikkor lineup, and all the good DX zoom lenses cost twice as much.

Since it was my birthday on Mon, I placed an order for a 28/2.8 AIS to perhaps replace my 35/2 AI
I realise that my involvement in this thread has only seen me purchase the 35/2, 50/1.8, 50/1.2 over three years
It’s taken me awhile to be able to say this again… “Curtis made me do it”

For most situations 30mm is plenty wide. If you do want to go wider then that on a DX camera my best budget advise is to pick up a used or new 18-55. Those are cheap enough and offer decent image quality, but nothing like a 20mm prime. 18mm is not much wider then 20. If you want wider then that I would either pick up a Tokina 12-24 DX lens or the Sigma 12-24 FX lens. The Nikon 12-24 is good as well but costs twice as much.

I'm also still on DX. Mainly a budget thing but I really like the reach of my 80-200 on DX.
