David, the white spots/paint chips is rather common with the 35mm f1.4 ais. I don't really know why, but it is the only nikkor I have seen with multiple copies having this issue. All the ebay listings claim it doesn't effect the image quality. I got my copy in mid June after looking for 8 months at the condition and price point I wanted to pay. In that time there were at least 6 - 8 copies listed in ebay with the marks you mention.

This isn't EX+ condition

See if KEH will swap this one for one that is EX+ Maybe they shipped the wrong lens.

Received my two lenses today! First impressions: the 35mm 1.4 AI-s is pretty much like all of my other AI-s lenses. Solid, relatively compact. I am a bit disappointed in that there is a bit of paint chipping on the black surround inside the glass - that is, the metal underneath the glass cover that actually holds the lens element. Can't feel it, as the glass is covering it. I will try to take a photo of it, but I wonder if this should be a KEH EX+ copy. Everything else looks fine, so maybe I am over doing it

Been awhile since I posted but still reading every page
I tried to sell my 105 AI-s tonight and started looking for a photo that I had taken with it
Too many good memories that go with that lens and this thread .So even though I don't have a camera right now
I am going to keep it and the 50 1.8
A little late for the third anniversary but the first photo is my contribution and all are with the 105 I guess I am looking for a camera again

Fantastic work by all. The quality has really picked up over the years. You all make each other better photographers

Leighton - Of course I still have Nikki - she's been round the world, she holds a very special place in my heart. I don't use her much because bloody Phillippe forced me to buy the zeiss 85 1.4 so that's my go to 85 at the moment. He's also put a flea in my ear about the zeiss 35 1.4 so I've been shooting with the nikon 35 mm 1.4 AIS to prove to myself that I don't need the zeiss.

Phillippe - yes, no internet in 1944 - but this is 2013....but welcome back, and as usual you caught

I have to admit, I'm more than a bit tempted by the Zeiss MF lenses.

I have just read Curtis's post about third anniversary and by a happy (and quite lucky) coincidence I took that picture in the Sainte-Mère-Eglise Airborne Museum at 12.43 pm August 22,2013 with 28/2.8 ais :

I must say, after a day shooting my 24mm f/2 AIS lens on a DSLR, I am impressed at how well you guys focus. It is NOT easy. Not while doing street photography. I struggled mightily with it although did get some nice results. But it is not as relaxing as I might like it to be. I struggle to believe going full frame makes this so much better.

I did this shoot on my S5 so cant share them here so let me just link here for those interested in some Shanghai street scenes with the 24mm f/2 lens.

I think the anniversary has prompted all the posters in the last few days to really lift the bar way above its already high levels!

Not much chance at all to capture anything in the last couple days, much less touch the camera and lenses except for a few minutes this am.

One thing I have found enjoyment (other than the amazing quality and camaraderie on the thread) is trying to go back in time to get hold of lenses that were way in the beginning, when Nikon still measured in cm, and seeing how they do on the D800.

Here's two sets of three each.

From left, the 5.8 cm 1.4 S, 2.8cm 3.5 H and 5cm 2 S. Photo taken with the Nikki clone, 85 1.8 HC.

The 13.5 cm 3.5 Q in the middle, with its two minders, the 10.5 cm 2.5 P 9-blade version on the left and the 10.5 cm 2.5 P 6-blade version on the right. Taken with the 5.8 cm 1.4 S.

And finally a set of three including fresh, colorful active, finite life, and the everlasting peace of after life. These were all taken a few days ago.

35mm f2 OC

50mm f2 HC, I think with the PK-11A attached.

20mm 3.5 UD

The difference between the DX and FX viewfinders is actually remarkable. I really can pick out a lot more with an FX (D700) finder, even with the stock viewglass, than I ever could with my old D80. Night and day. With DX it was almost guessing, particularly with the super fast glass like the 50mm f/1.2.
