Got a new piece of gear today... I have wanted one of these to do real macro for as long as I have been into photography. Today I got a LN- PB-4 bellows unit, in box with paperwork and exposure card. It is in amazing shape with only one blemish that I should be able to polish. I don't think the slide and tilt has ever been unlocked. Not sure if I will ever really use it, but its a beautiful piece.

I also got a 55/2.8 Macro that is NIB. The issue is that it sat in a very hot location standing upright. The focus is seized and there is oil on the aperture. Any idea on how much a CLA might run?

Friday, it is Cruising Grand Street again, there are only two weeks left. This time it is fire engines that are cruising. Took the 3.5cm 2.8 from 1960, it is ai converted, sharp lens in the center and it gets near perfect at 5.6 and 8.0. Not in the same league as the 2.0 and 1.4 at 4.0 and below. But it works, heck I do not know a nikkor that does not work.

It was very hot, it inspired respect for fire fighters.

There were Mack fire engines:

Very old fire engines

Commemorative fire engines

Big fire engines with big flags

A crop to show how good this lens can get at 5.6

Rafael, really liking those old fire engines. Any old firefighter vets around? Their faces are so full of character.

The one with the dog, is that horse drawn?

Dylan, there were plenty of old firefighters around, but I am very shy about photographing people that I do not know. Greatly enjoy the humanity in your photos, but that is Dylan's strength not Rafael's.

The old engine was horse drawn, beautiful gray horses, but they were mobbed by the crowd. Could not get a picture of them.

Rafael, another nice set! I like especially the second shot for the framing and the sense of motion (panned a bit).

Dylan, the comic-guy is well portrayed, the gent with the clear focus too ;-) The 105/1.8 is an extremely well handling lens, btw...

Lots of nice shots over the many pages since I last visited, too many and I don't want to leave anyone out.

Eric, yeah, you may want to be careful in Ray's neck of the woods if you're going to do a cannonball there... those gators have been in the news quite a bit lately.. probably because of naive humans(tourists) feeding them and the gators learning to associate humans with a ready source of snacks...

Just in time to see Ben's latest. Selling the 85 1.4 when you get such images out of it I guess it must be Ben and the Lieutenant's affliction d'Zeiss Sorry for the lame French try

Here's something to foster relaxing thoughts..

135mm f2 AI, at f/2.8

Fantastic, Ben !
I wonder how #2 would be with a vertical framing on the left-hand side. But not sure it would be better, the pic is great like that!

The Plessis-Bourré castel is not the best known of the Loire valley castels but it is one of the most beautiful.
The castel is almost in his initial state of 15 th century.
A special place for me especially because my wedding reception was there.

This definitely needs another look with that sliver of the moon in the upper left hand corner. Very sweet Peter. You've spent time in a world few of us have ever visited. Your photos from the trip are a delight and in quite a few of them you've really hit the jackpot. Excellent work.

BEFORE I HAVE TO SELL IT??

What is that all about Ben... you of deep pockets and expensive Zeiss lenses? Inquiring minds want to know? Has your growing Zeiss kit rendered the lens superfluous? Why not sell Nikki to me insteadi?

Your processing in these images is quite fine. I love seeing your work on the thread Ben. You have a great eye.

Samy, that cat photo is precious, at least anyone who loves cats would feel that way. Watching a cat is always a source of delight for me. This really is delicious.

So many wonderful photos. The variety of styles among folks posting on this thread is a delight, whether flower photos from Steve or the magnificent sunflowers from James, or the street work of Dylan that always makes me pause, or Ray's carefully composed and beautifully processed photos from Florida, or Rafael's celebration of the southland, or Philippe sharing his beautiful home. Chin gives us his very thoughtful compositions sometimes in color, sometimes in black and white, Peter's breathtaking landscape work, Ben's always alive street photography. I know I've missed a few and that isn't intentional but the variety is wonderful. Hats off to you all.

At the moment, photography is not in the forefront of my attention and so the D700 must wait patiently for the muse to return. I'll have to satisfy myself by stopping by this thread and enjoying what all my cyber friends are doing with their MF Nikkors. Keep shooting everyone... and have fun.

Thanks for the comments on the fishing and long exposure sunset shots.

Steve, super flower shots!

Peter, more terrific shots from the Sierra. Love the high elevation lakes in the summer.

Dylan, I really like your "fenced in" photo.

Sam, the detail of your coin shots with the tubed 50/1.2 is impressive.

Ray, you pulled off those tough aquarium shots very well.

Jim, gorgeous flowers with your 16/3.5.

Chuong, very cool fish shot with your 135/2.

Rafael, lovely sky shots. Love the old fire engines.

Peter, beautiful panos and I really like the composition of the tall vase shot.

Ron, the first lily pad shot is excellent.

Chin, nice camera!

Ben, love the Chevy wedding.

Philippe, what a classy, and beautiful, spot for a wedding reception! Terrific reflection shot.

There is that sense of wonderment as I tore open the bubble wrap to unveil
What would seem to be one of the most pristine AIS lenses I've ever held
The turn, the click-stops, even the snap of the old-fashioned cap
A far cry from my beater 35/2 which I simply chuck into my messenger bag

There is that sense of honour as though I am bequeathed this
What images have passed through its glass, projected on film and now electronic sensors
Upon closer inspection, I notice two small lines criss-cross its barrel
Why, how, in which part of its photographic journey did it sustain those injuries?

There is that sense of glee as I look through the viewfinder
The world simply looks different, colours, perspective
All in the head my rational side argued as even those thoughts got pushed out
By stifled laughter, rapid button-mashing, humming see-arr-see under my breath

Oh Curtis, look what you made me do!
