Wow, a lot of fine images since my last visit and way too many to comment on. But I'll pick my five favorites like Ray did some time ago.

Ray, I love the processing you did with the sky in this image and the overall feel of the scene.

Jeff, Although your picture of the ocean was nice, I just liked the colors and bokeh of this one better.

Rafael, I liked the whole set and it was a toss up between this one and the last one. But I chose this one because this happens to be my all time favorite truck!

Kevin, Very very nice. B&W works perfectly here as does the composition. And to capture him without anybody else in the frame was a bonus.

Steve, Lovely image, I love kids playing in water and this one was framed just right.

We had talked about sharing images so that we could develop them as we saw fit. Curtis started this with a Dropbox folder and sent me an image from Bert. Here is the original and my version of it done in LR5.

Superb images all week, and trying to keep up with them is quite an undertaking. Leighton, always enjoy the market shots. Some day I have more luxurious time I may participate in the dropbox adventure. But not enough time yet unfortunately although it would be great to try to learn more on postprocessing techniques that many here are experts on.

Welcome to drlouis from Nebraska, look forward to seeing much more from your side!

Rafael, quit posting those delicious images of lenses, at the minimum I spend way too much time just admiring the lenses BTW, for those who prefer their lenses looking pristine on the tabletop, I found a touchup black marker pen on micro-tools.com (although I just looked there and its temporarily out of stock). I had unwittingly introduced a few scuffs on my otherwise shiny 2.8cm 3.5 H lens, and have been gently trying to cover them over.

Wow Leighton praise indeed with you including one of my images in your top 5 recently.

Thank you so much for your appreciation. As a new boy it means a lot. And very encouraging too.

Let's hope I can keep up the standard.

Cheers

Steve

Curtis, I understand your reticence to step into the world of tripods .... it's well and truly confusing if your budget is limited.

You asked what I use, well this may come as a surprise, and then again maybe not.

I use a couple of carbon Gitzo tripods (no, not at the same time) One (a G1228) is used for a Leica Televid 82 scope, awesome piece of kit.

The other I use for my long lenses, again a Gitzo but the G1258 both have off-centre ball heads on them with QR plates. The only reason I can afford such luxury is that I work part-time for a camera shop who only sell Leica. Some times items are traded in against Leica lenses etc, and that means I can purchase them at an advantageous price point.

I noticed a trend towards discussing the hardware that people are using too. To be fair, I do think that whatever you are using is something you have to be happy with, and these days it almost certainly has to be 64 bit processing.

Personally I use apple products and have done for many years. But an older IBM ad campaign for the AS/400 system sums up my feelings on processors. Taken with 55mm Micro @f8 ISO200 1/100th

Or is it 64 butts, no bits ???

I am seriously impressed with Rays sky shots and the processing you have done.

And inspire to play too.

So here are a couple taken yesterday from my back garden.

One processed with SilverFX Pro 2 taken with a 35mm f2.8 @f4 ISO200 1/320th

the second taken using the 55mm Micro f3.5 @ f4.5 ISO200 1/2000th and PS5.5 greyscaled with -30 brightness and +40 contrast.

Thanks for making me think about how to make a cloud picture Ray.

This thread moves!

This is from The Canadian Museum of Nature. Funny, most people take their cameras there to get shots of the exhibits. I spent my time looking for interesting takes on the people looking to get shots of the exhibits.

Dylan - Nice use of what I assume is the 16mm.

Ray - More nice ones from the ranch. Where are the animals?

Bert - Thanks and thanks.
