Thank you for your mention Saph.

Love your flower pix

As for the 500mm f4P

Try these taken on it a week or so ago.

We don't have the fabulous array of coloured birds in the UK - lots of little brown jobs (LBJ) here

Anyway here we go -

Thanks everyone for the comments.

Rafael, congrats on the new (old) 135/3.5 Q, and I loved the lens porn;

Ray, thanks for the info on your gorgeous photo.

Just a break from the birds, this is a rare São Paulo city "fog" , taken last Sunday:

So after the PP discussions I figured I do a little playing around with a photo taken during my Cape Cod trip back in June. The photo was taken in the old part of Plymouth, MA with the 28mm f3.5 Ai.

First I adjusted the contrast and exposure just ever so slightly in Lightroom. After that I exported to Silver Efex Pro.( I had loaded the demo version to try out after seeing some of the work on here) I processed with the vintage Antique Plate II preset. I then opened the file in Photoshop CS3 where I adjusted levels a bit and added some film grain.

Enclosed are the original unprocessed photo (only resized fro web display) and the final product.

I uploaded the raw file in dropbox for those with access.

Regards
Bert

Since dolls seem to be a common test subject I felt that I'd be remiss if I didn't take this shot (D600 + 105/2.5):

Just bought my first manual focus lenses and found time to test one of them out (80-200/4.5 AI). took it for a walk in my garden to see what I could find, nothing remarkable. But I think I like this lens so far.

Haven't had a chance to put the 300mm through it's paces yet.

Edit: wow. embedding pics doesn't work like other forums I've been on...

Jose asked for a test of the 15 5.6 and the 15 3.5. The two 15s in this photo, these are the actual lenses:

all the short wide nikon nikkor lenses 8mm 15mm 16mm 18mm 20mm by Rafael CA, on Flickr

The following photos are full res in flickr if you care to check them. These lenses are worth testing at 5.6, 8 and 11. Other apertures do not need to be used.

My observations: outdoors or on a much bigger location the 15mm 3.5 will be sharper over more of the frame as it has a flatter field of focus. Indoors or in a small location the 15mm 5.6 which has more curvature of field, extends focus very nicely to the sides of the frame and is much better than the 15mm 3.5. The 5.6 has a yellower color rendition. The 3.5 has a tendency for blobs in adverse light, much more than the 5.6. Any observations apply to these two samples only.

Which one would I use? the 5.6 in smaller locations and adverse light, the 3.5 in bigger locations with favorable lighting (light from behind). Both are very usable, I am sure there are better lenses but these can create beautiful photos, as you have seen.

These are full res in flickr, first the two samples from the 5.6, then the two from the 3.5.

Note how the 3.5 has cooler rendition, camera is set to the same color balance, this is not too important for digital

Note how in closer quarters the 3.5 does not extend sharpness to the wall as nicely as the 5.6 does, also note the ugly blob at the bottom left in contrarian light that the 5.6 did not have

Having said all of this about the 3.5, light does not get more contrarian than the photo below, to me it looks quite fine.

Fascinating look at the 15mm lenses. I definitely prefer the f/3.5 version due to the much better color. Too much yellow in the other lens.

Not really. I have 40 boxes now and have Neopan 400 lying all over the house and fridge. I've got it coming out of my ears and need to shoot some of this stuff to control the population.
