That's true John. The fellow I met at that creek said he saw a huge gator floating earlier in the day

Dean, these are both very nice but I especially like this one. I would like to go in that shop.

Thanks Ray and Scott. I love these little things when the light hits them just right, they become small red light bulbs

Chuong, I like your yew-shots as well as your red-lightbulb-comparison ;-) The 105/2.8 micro does well here - the background can get nasty with the wrong lens on these trees.

Love this shot! Reminds me of my time in Paris. I spent 6 days walking the streets of Paris and ended up finding a lot of Italian shops like this. They had great vegetarian sandwiches (tomato and mozzarella cheese) which really kept me going during those long, 12 hour walks. I lived off those sandwiches and always managed to find an Italian shop when hungry.

Felt sort of weird eating Italian food while in France, but it worked for me.

Chin, excellent landscape. Mother nature did well to leave the dead tree behind your shoulder ;-)

Philippe, I like your Normandy-series a lot.

Peter from Madison, the worker is my personal favorite from your latest set: excellent use of the 20mm!

Dean, the Italy-shots are great, I like especially the ones in B&W.

Steve, Very nice street-portraits/candids with the mighty 200/2! The subject-isolation is amazing.
This lens was my dream-optic for many many years. Now I have the 200/2VR and it's probably my most used lens (sports-shots add up quickly ;-).

Curtis, love the jewelry-image. Perfect use of the 85/1.4. As I already own the AF-D-variant I have decided to overlook tempting Ais-offers ;-)

Scott, the "reflections" are very nicely captured!

JD, congrats to your 28/2.8! Nice street-shots and a good reminder that kids don't need Swarovski-plated gameboys to be happy ;-)

Steven, very cool snake-portraiture!

John, I like especially "thinking about taking a picture" and "at the forward end" from your latest series. Portraiture in a very unusual way: excellent!

Ray, very nice "swamp-scapes"!

Thank you Ray, Ronny, and Georg for the comments.

For anyone interested, a Nikon 200 f4 QC on ebay. Looks like it has possibly been factory Ai'd. Price seems reasonable. Here is the link:

RM & Scott ... it is a really nice shop. I too like the vegetarian panini's ... especially with prosciutto

Thanks Georg. The 85 f/1.4D is one of only three AF lenses I've kept and I love it. With the extensive kit you have I understand you feel no need to duplicate focal lengths, especially so since the AI-s lens is not cheap. As I mention above, I find myself going more often to the 105 but I haven't bought an AF version at that focal length.

For something a bit different. Sue and I visited Point Reyes Station for lunch and a bit of browsing in the local shops. When we came out of lunch I saw a large number of motorcycles parked along the main street and while Sue chatted with friends we ran into, I wandered over to see what was up. This first shot from across the street was badly overexposed but when trying to find something worth salvaging the thought crossed my mind it might be worth converting in Silver Efex Pro 2. This was shot with the 85 f/1.4 AI-s at f/8, for better or worse...

I shot another featuring a fellow with a Van Dyke beard who looks much like Sue's brother.

Finally, some bokeh play. As i walked down the street I asked a fellow wearing a leather vest what was going on. He said about two hundred motorcycle riders were spending the day riding in West Marin. They stopped here for a beer and then were heading to Tomales Bay for lunch. He wanted to show me his motorcycle, noting that every owner believes his bike is the best, then saying he'd recently won a best in show award. He also said his motorcycle would be featured in a forthcoming magazine edition. Unfortunately, the light was so bright and there were so many motorcycles i couldn't do justice to the beautifully detailed bike with gold leaf applied. Bokeh play, then a mundane bike photo.

We made our usual visit to the Vedanta Retreat Center and i grabbed a few photos with the recently arrived 20 f/3.5 U.D. AI'd.

It is both a retreat center and monastery occupied by a number of men who work on the ranch. And one shot taken with the 85 f/1.4 AI-s. This is the lane that leads to the retreat center. I'm peering back toward Highway 1 that runs along the California coast.
