Ah, the irony about being told you cannot photograph bumper stickers praising freedom. Amazing.

Chuong, gorgeous capture of your daughter with the UD;

John, very nice unusual perspective/framing with the 16/3.5;

Ratty, great set from Shanghai with the 24/2.

Whats wrong with winter?

You'd better feel that way Scott considering you live in a part of the country that has about the worst winter experience of any place in the lower 48. Rochester ranks 11th in average snowfall and 7 of the 10 cities with more snowfall are in New York, not too far from Rochester... I spent the first 27 years of my life in Minnesota so I'm very familiar with both snow and cold. The Twin Cities ranks 57th. Forty-three years on the West Coast have saved me from winter but Sue and I are seriously considering Santa Fe which HAS winter. Its just not the kind of winter that has two feet of snow on the ground for three months. I'll leave that experience to you.

That first shot RM is surreal. It almost looks as if a space age city has been built on the edge of a rather ordinary city. This a a very nice set of images. Love the "weight" and clarity of all three. The sky helps as well. Very sweet.

Thanks. The amazing thing is, that area with all the skyscrapers, was *all* farmland 25 years or so ago. Today it is like Manhattan, but only one generation ago was rural country land.

The 500 F4P has gotten almost no use this summer but today it came out of its case briefly to spy on this rabbit. The rabbit's looking warily at the front element of the 500 peeking out from under the partly open window. at 1/1250s, f/5.6, ISO800.

Did Scott really say what's wrong with winter?? After this past winter which didn't seem to end, I am enjoying every bit of the hot humid Maryland July.

RM, very nice, especially that last one of the tower through the two older buildings. Development is good for the economy and people's livelihoods, but it sure plays havoc with the serenity.

Bert, very cool work with water droplets!

Eric, nice flowers and the mushroom.

Georg, I too liked the color version of your hometown, and that latest flower with the 45 PCE.

RM all three are nice shots, particularly the first. My goal, and I believe it can be done, is to replicate film with my D800 and MF lenses.

I know that shooting film forces you into a certain mindset, etc. Have heard all of that before. Nothing to keep one from forcing that discipline into digital shooting, if it is so important. Or go out with a real small memory card!

If however one shoots film for that "film look" then I believe one can get to it with equipment, processing, and talent.

Anyway, really nice shots...

I just read your bio Chuong and I have to say I'm impressed. I don't know what the draw was about Cincinnati, though i imagine you had family connections that made that a natural landing place. But talk about culture shock coming from a rural setting in what is a rather tropical climate to seasons in Ohio and a metropolitan area. I imagine the more complete story would be filled with challenges. Americas relationship with Vietnam is complex. Of course, you came well after the war ended. A lovely Vietnamese woman has been cutting my hair for 24 years and I've learned a great deal from her about the experience of living with war and then trying to escape the country afterwards. It was especially challenging for those who had assisted Americans during the war.

Lovely seeing your whole family celebrating your son's birthday. And very glad you found your way back to photography and eventually to this thread.

Thanks Custis. It was a rough road but we made it here and I am thankful. My English is still not good enough to write but I am hoping that my kids will pick up the rest of our stories and share them.

My father paid dearly for the war. Right after the war, they(the commies) took him away from us when I was 15 months old and after 13 years, he came back into our lives and we started it all over. We had two choices(thanks to our former President Reagan). Either stay, or leave the country. We decided to leave and here we are.

For anyone who wants to play with a beautiful old lens, there is a 300 f/4.5 H with the AI conversion kit available on E-Bay for $147.60 that looks to be in pretty nice condition. I love this lens and at that price it is hard to beat...

I hope that someone in your family will tell the whole story. The story of that war is not complete without acknowledgement of what families like yours experienced because they supported American efforts. My friend Lan was in the countryside when the Americans decided to leave Vietnam. By the time she got back to Saigon her entire family had left. She lived alone in the family home, a teenage girl. She had to strip things from the home and sell them to feed herself. It was many years before she could leave Vietnam and find her family in this country. Her two sons were born here and have made lives for themselves, as surely your children will do. Hopefully the will carry with pride your family's history.

Rafael, love your recent work! The cars are fantastic, a joy to look at your pictures. Classic American cars are rare here, but from time to time some strange cars from the times behind the Iron Curtain show up here. A Tatra 603 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatra_603) with it's aircooled V8-engine in the rear is a good example for cars that make my heart go staccato.

Regarding the strange helmet I wear at the mugshot: I had the opportunity to check out a new turntable-ladder of the local fire-brigade. Had to wear a helmet for safety reasons (german laws) before climbing into the basket.
