Bert, that first shot with the 200mm is beautiful.

Can anybody tell me more about the NIKKOR 500mm f/4 P ED lens. I have found one for sale in its factory aluminium case for roughly $2500... Worth it at that price?

Seems to be in extremely good condition judging from the photos.

$2500 is on the high end. Good condition 500mm f/4 P can be found for about $2000 to $2200 with case. If it is in exceptional condition and late model (check serial number) it may be worth the $2500. I was looking at these lenses for months and eventually bought a 600mm, but I was close to buying the more versatile 500mm. On a DX body I definitely would have bought the 500mm. Great lens all around.

I have a couple of M Berts books and really like them. Following the format of other Serge Ramelli packages, this features one video on the shoot, and one on the processing .For four shoots.

Unlike his sometimes over the top processing, M Ramelli defers to M Berts (the Master) who uses old school techniques updated for any version of Photoshop from about 2 on. Note: can't easily accomplish this in Lightroom prior to LR 5, as layers are heavily

This thread moves at an amazing speed. Last time I looked we just had hit 3000 pages! Saw some great shots on the last few pages - yellow liquid with f/1.2 bokeh - how much better can it get in summer? Dinosaur bones in South Dakota, a state where I always keep the foot on the gas to get past Wall Drug and all those other tourist traps , and too many others to mention them all.

I haven't shot much lately, so nothing to show. Working with neoprene glue tonight to make a lenscoat for my 600mm - chemicals known to the state of California to do nasty things are being inhaled to protect the old AIS beauty. Maybe I should take some photos of that, since it is actually pretty easy to do and looks better than the commercially available stuff for a fraction of the cost.

I have one that I use for birding and, optically, it's a gem. Check my post history for a few samples. I will post more from last weekend when I get a chance.

I paid slightly less than $2500 for it, but included in the price was the aluminum case, a lens coat hood, pk11, pk12, pk13 tubes, TC-14b, and a modified TC-16a.

I have yet to see a photo posted on this thread taken with the 500 f/4 AI-P that I haven't loved. I'm very content with my 400 f/5.6 AI-s ED-IF and the fact I bought it for less than $400 no doubt increases my appreciation. The 500 f/4 is one of the few lenses that intrigues me but whose cost is beyond my budget. But I love it when folks post photos from the lens, so please Jay, drop some on this thread. Seems you got quite a package with all those tubes and extenders that in themselves are worth quite a few hundred dollars.

Cheap and expensive, it is all possible with the MF Nikkors

This one with the 58mm 1.2 noct, which is quite expensive, but which I was able to acquire relatively cheap:

and one with the 75-150/3.5 series E, which was absolutely cheap (fixed the notorious zoom creap with two pieces of black electrical tape).

By the way: absolutely georgeous picture by *all* of you since the last millennium!

NO! A nice one was on the buy and sell for 1850. The 500P can be hit or miss. Some are critically sharp and some or not.

Inspired by the gorgeous images Ronny has been posting I had to get out again with the 135 f/2.8 Q.C. AI'd with a 20mm Vivitar tube attached. I stopped at Marin Art and Garden and took a few photos, though I promise not to post them all here. Since I'm using tubes they can as readily be posted on the Shooting with Tubes thread in the Macro World, which has become another gathering spot for folks who hang out on this thread. Remember, the only price of admission is to add a tube to your setup. We don't care whether you're using MF or AF lenses, Nikon or Canon or Sony. So come on over for a visit and you'll see old friends.

Here is a close crop. This lens really performs beautifully. I'll have to take it for a spin with the 135 f/2 AI-s to see how they handle similar situations. Here I was shooting at f/5.6.

I am still super busy with work. I took a 55mm f2.8 with the PK-13 for about 15mins today. The bees were quite friendly. They were about less than a foot from the front of my lens. No crop.

Nicely done Chuong! I am thinking of selling my 55mm 2.8 AIS with the PK-13, so coincidently I was shooting with mine tonight to see if I really wanted to sell. Here's a couple shots:
