Bert's wonderful work inspires me to post another photo taken this afternoon with the 135 f/2.8 Q.C. AI'd with the Vivitar 20mm tube attached. Love the shadows on the flower petals.

The wonderful yellow in Curtis' shot above inspired me to post an image in color too:

Thank you Jeff, and Francesco.

Bert - I like the isolation from the background you have in your flower shots.

Curtis - Nice work with the tube.

Georg - I like the yellow of your image better than the yellow of Curtis'.

Wonderful set Roberto. Doesn't appear to be a bad place for a holiday. I keep hearing from my friend Rinie about her latest excursion and can't help but be envious of folks living in Europe who seem more inclined to take holidays than most Americans. I think Rinie has 56 days off during the year in addition to weekends. She also can "buy" additional time off, so she generally has 70 days in which to play. Of course, I'm retired so I can't complain but it sure would have been nice during my working career when I had more disposable

Thank you Samy, Ronny, Jeff and Curtis for the comments to my pictures.

Definitely Seychelles are not a bad place for a holiday, and are even better for an honeymoon! That's the reason for this destination.

I'm self employed and then I can arrange days off as I want (if my job permit it), but in Italy employed people have about 25 working days off, my wife had two more weeks off for wedding, not bad.

I have never thought about Europeans and Americans attitude to holidays, I like them and I hope to be able to keep going on holidays in future, things are not going very well in Europe and especially in Italy.

Roberto, I too liked your holiday shots. Was that the Thanktank Retrospective 10 I saw hanging in the tree? I have this bag as well and love it!

Yes it is Leighton, I remember the bag in one of your posted pictures, I wondered if it was yours or the one of the man in the picture.

I like it a lot too but I would like to try the smaller Retrospective 5, I think it would be enough for the lighter travel kit I can consider: D600, 20mm f/4, 35mm f/2.5 E, 100mm f/2.8 E (or 105mm f/2.5) and gorillapod.

Like your last picture, very nice light.

Thanks. The TT Retro 5 looks nice, but I don't think my gripped D600 would fit.

And I haven't been to too many car shows before, at least never with the idea of fun photography before, that idea was plagiarized unashamedly from Rafael

Three more from the car show. I think for now I am done with that set.

Hood ornament (home made?) on the jalopy I posted yesterday. 35 1.4N, f/4

Engine with bokeh (as opposed to engine with flair?). 55 1.2 S, f/2.8

Ocean City, Maryland. 55 1.2 S, f/2.8 again.

Curtis, that second sunflower is superb. Good reminder to put the extension tubes to work more often.

Chin, very nice water movement!! A very calming image. Why glucosamine? Unless I have forgotten the structure since my long gone biochem days.

Jeff, cool fireworks reflection again, very enjoyable.

Bert, I really like the second flower, very pleasant soft colors.

Franche, thanks, that 135 f2 never fails, very nice.

Georg, I look at that picture as a glass half full not half empty You got to work on the glass a bit more Love what the 55 1.2 did to the lens on the D3S!

Roberto, congrats. Seychelles would be a very nice destination indeed for this occasion! That is good you were able to go to such a relaxing place. Indeed lots of places around the world are going through some rough times.

Leighton, beauty of a shot at the market this week!

Here is something I can recommend:

The Art of Black and White Photography, a set of tutorials by Serge Ramelli, featuring Jean-Michel Berts:
http://photoserge.com/tutorial/the-art-of-black-and-white-by-jean-michel-berts/

I have a couple of M Berts books and really like them. Following the format of other Serge Ramelli packages, this features one video on the shoot, and one on the processing .For four shoots.

Unlike his sometimes over the top processing, M Ramelli defers to M Berts (the Master) who uses old school techniques updated for any version of Photoshop from about 2 on. Note: can't easily accomplish this in Lightroom prior to LR 5, as layers are heavily relied upon. With LR 5 you can use the radial filter as a workaround, but not as good as layers. His use of Quick Mask mode is refreshing to those of us who left it probably ten years ago. Works well.

Of import to this group is than Jean-Michel is shooting with a D800 and Nikon MF lenses. I asked him , via his blog, what lenses he preferred and he responded 35mm 2.8 AI-s. Also the 60mm micro.

Anyway, check out the preview and decide for yourself...

Heh thanks Samy.
It was an agonizingly steep walk back up the soft sandy path
The kind where if you stopped, your legs simply tremble and you find yourself slowly slipping back down
All of us had burning backs and creaking knees
Which prompted my dear wife to remind us to take the joint supplements my parents are on...
Glucosamine sulphate
