Ray and Ronny, thanks for commenting.

Bert, what a spetacular macro of the fly + flower with the humble 135/3.5 + tube;

Ray, magnificent pano with 16/3.5, almost HDR-like;

Curtis, loved the beautiful chest set;

Peter, excellent captures of the Bar Throated Apalis;

Ronny, you continue to perfect (if that is possible!!) your art of flower photos with tubes!

Continuing the frugivorous birds series, this time with the 800/5.6 wide open, the acrobatic Sayaca Tanager:

Great bird shot Jose (as always!)

Thanks

Great Leighton - I hope a Pupusa is not a "papoose" and that you haven't bought the baby

Back from France, thanks a lot to Philippe for the travel tip, Belle Ile de mere was fantastic and lived up to it's name. Although I was told by a local I didn't visit France but I visited Breizh (the local name for Bretagne / Brittany). It seems France is really 3 countries in one, Breizh, Rest of France and then Paris. The hardline locals consider themselves a part of the Celtic nations like Wales (Cymru), Scotland (Alba), Ireland (Eire) etc.

Ray, Charleston really has charm. I'd love to see a comparative series setting the D7000 against the D600 - on the dimensions of my screen there's nothing in it.

Excellent Jose - so like our thrushes. Olive, Kurrichane and Karoo are clearly closely related and probably go back to the Gondwanaland split.

So the 300 f/4.5 H AI'd arrived this afternoon and I had to take it for a short spin. Apart from the fact it arrived with a broken UV filter and had a couple of small dents in the lens hood that weren't disclosed, the lens is in beautiful condition with perfect glass and no internal problems. The focus ring is a bit stiff, but I expect that to improve with time. Here is a photo taken with the 50 f/1.2 AI-s of the 300 next to its smaller cousin from the same era, the 200 f/4 Q.C. AI'd. This is one of the reasons I like the 28mm 2.8 AI-s over the 28-50mm. You can get MUCH closer on the wide end.

After my last vacation, I am going to be selling off a lot of my gear, starting with lenses. I will be posting them for sale here next payday (so I can pay for the ability) but if any of you are interested in anything in my kit shoot me a message. I know there are some newcomers here...

As to why. I spent a day with just my D7000 and my 50/1.8E (my lightest lens) and ended up with neck pain (using a VERY

Oh Kevin what a shame. Is there no way you can set up a "mini studio" and take the subjects to your camera? You are such an very good photographer that we can't lose you from this thread. Look at Strad's images of flowers - I'm sure you can match those with your skill.

Thinking about you.
