I don't like to talk with myself but I was browsing some recent photos and discovered one I'd given five stars to that hadn't been processed. I thought before heading to bed I'd post it... three iris flowers captured in dappled light by the 105 f/2.5 P AI'd, one of the six pre-AI lenses currently in my kit. This old lens is definitely a winner.

A senior moment. I totally forgot to comment on this worthy image. I know why you rated it 5 stars, it's gorgeous!

Back from France, thanks a lot to Philippe for the travel tip, Belle Ile de mere was fantastic and lived up to it's name. Although I was told by a local I didn't visit France but I visited Breizh (the local name for Bretagne / Brittany). It seems France is really 3 countries in one, Breizh, Rest of France and then Paris. The hardline locals consider themselves a part of the Celtic nations like Wales (Cymru), Scotland (Alba), Ireland (Eire) etc.
1500 pics to go through, I won't post them all of course.

Mark,

For the "Parisiens", the world is divided in 2 parts : Paris and the rest of the universe

Man does not live by bread alone... he needs a few MF Nikkors...

And Ronny, I know you shoot Zeiss as well but you really could live with only the 135 f/2 AI-s and 180 f/2.8 AI-s... every shot a gem.

Ronny, another fabulous set!

Ray, thanks, I'm glad you like the minigolf-shot.
The 16/3.5 works great on your D7000 - the church-shots look almost like taken with a shift-lens on FX, they are not screaming "fisheye" ;-)
Did you correct the perspective in post? Anyway, I like the church-set, personal fav is #2, very interesting architecture!

Thanks Leighton, Luc, Ray, Georg, and Mark for the comments.

Leighton and Luc, loved the 50/1.2 bokeh playing shots;

Georg, great PP and grain in your "gritty result"

Mark, loved the BIF and the night scenario;

Curtis and Ronny, gorgeous flowers, as usual.

Thank you Georg. The 16mm on DX does not exhibit nearly the distortion as on FX. On these photos however I did correct and straighten the shots. I don't usually correct, but these photos screamed to "fixed"

Way too many good photos. I'm very tired lately. I suppose a few of you noticed Phoebe, our fifth cat. She was abandoned by her mother at about 3-4 weeks of age. She has imprinted on me, and my wife. I have hardly slept in days. Phoebe runs all night long savaging human limbs that are left tauntingly outside their normal coverings of sheets and blankets. I expected to see a bloody stump where my left hand use to be this morning. I brought her to the studio the other day, and found MF Nikkors were quite a challenge to get a good photo. I finally just grabbed her in my left hand and shot with the other. I then immediately let her go, and she start pouncing on me from 3-4 feet away. Couldn't get it in focus, but I thought I would share one of the pounce shots. Oh, and the 35mm f1.4 is the lens I used...a beautiful lens I might add...

I Don't Want To Hold Still

That's a terrific cat shot! Even though blurry...

And the other one should be used right next to the word 'cute' in a dictionnary - and I know there are no pics there...

Ronny, your dog photos are amazing, and now your flower photos are in the same league. Simply beautiful! BTW...would you mind if I forward some of your dog photos links to a friend that is publishing a magazine about dogs (and now cats) called "Unleashed"?

I am 10 pages behind! Great work everyone.

Ronny, amazing flower images. Beautiful backgrounds really set these off.

Leighton, the b&w of the pupusas vendor is very nice. I remember his face. Enjoyed the pupusas as well.

Ray, nice images from Charleston. The gates are neat. I too like the 16mm as my wide lens, and if shooting architecture I find it not to bad to correct.

Luc, the lighting and composition of the Mercedes car images are first rate.

Georg, I like the mini-golf obstacle image.

Samy, nice street images from Baltimore.

Laura, I like the first Wright B Replica image.

Jose, the moon shots are definitely worth the repost. The 400 ED of the flower and the 800 5.6 of the Tanager are very nice.

Roland, love the mountain flower closeups.

Chin, more shots of Oolong please.

Philippe, very nice portrait and candle image.

Peter, great bird images.

Curtis, wonderful Iris flower image.

James, I am not a big fan of cats but this little one is very cute. I like the pounce image.

Thank you to Jeff and Jose for comments on my images.

So the 300 f/4.5 H AI'd arrived this afternoon and I had to take it for a short spin. Apart from the fact it arrived with a broken UV filter and had a couple of small dents in the lens hood that weren't disclosed, the lens is in beautiful condition with perfect glass and no internal problems. The focus ring is a bit stiff, but I expect that to improve with time. Here is a photo taken with the 50 f/1.2 AI-s of the 300 next to its smaller cousin from the same era, the 200 f/4 Q.C. AI'd. Personally, I find these two lenses among the most beautiful in my kit.

Here are three shots from my brief ramble up the street. The 300 has a minimum focusing distance of FOUR METERS, twice as far as the 200 Q.C. Everything was shot wide open, hand held.

I didn't notice the approaching bee when framing the shot but I was delighted to see it on the computer screen, especially so clear and sharp. Love the bokeh as well.

A separate shot from a slightly different angle and cropped closer...

I'll do some comparison shots in the near future of the two 300mm lenses now in my kit, the H and the AI-s with ED glass. But this lens definitely appears to be a winner. I don't think you'd go wrong George if you can find one at a decent price. I paid $152.50 plus shipping for the lens with a Lowepro lens case... and a broken filter.

Processed with the "push +1.5"-preset, slightly tweaked, in SEP2. This preset is one of my all-time-favs.

Loved the grain.
Was it added in PP and/or high ISO?
