Lots of new posters, welcome franche/charlie don't surf from Italy, and the solitaire from Germany!

Kevin, very nice colors on the butterfly and the flower after that one is colorful and sharp. I have enjoyed your Sacramento images. About 15 years ago I was on a trip to SF, and rented a car to drive to Sacramento for a day, I remember going to the Capitol building but no photos from then, I probably had the Canon S40 at that time. Thanks for the comment on the 13.5.

Curtis, thanks and I blame you for the scallop epidemic! But those lenses really are fun to use. Hope it cools down a bit in CA to get back to more of your regular flower imaging.

Samy

So I indulged in some NMFAS and purchased a few lenses from Craig AKA digitalthump - the 50mm f2 and 55mm f3.5 Micro. Attached are my initial shots with each. Neither are very remarkable, but you can see the nice bokeh from the f2 and the great MFD of the 55 Micro. The shots of my cats' nose was taken from about 6 inches away.

And don't forget Jay... we love photos OF manual focus lenses in addition to photos taken WITH them. Some call it lens porn but I believe beautiful craftsmanship is always worth celebrating and these lenses have that in spades.

You have to be careful as well because from everything I've heard, especially from John in Seattle who shot with the D300 when he began his adventure with us. NMFAS can easily include purchase of an FX camera with a bright viewfinder. That is something Leighton has commented on after moving from the D7000 to the D600. My guess is you'd find such a move rewarding if it ever happens.

Regardless, enjoy your new lenses and treat that cat with a bit more respect... I love the fact we have so many cat fanciers on this thread. I'm a huge fan of these remarkable creatures who deign to allow us to feed and care for them while rewarding us with occasional attention... so unlike a dog whose tail will wag the minute you enter a room. The Egyptians thought cats were gods and they may just have been right...

You've joined the tube celebration. I'll point you to another thread I started titled Shooting with Tubes. It is found in the Macro World forum. Quite a few folks who hang out on this thread also share their work on that thread that focuses on using tubes. That thread is not limited to Nikon MF lenses so if you have work with other systems or lenses you're more than welcome to share that as well.

I love this image. Thanks for sharing it.

At risk of wearing you out, I will post a photo from some of the lenses I have used in the recent past, just want to show the breadth of enjoyment and images that using different lenses enables, lens name in the photo name, used prices range from $60 to $1800 and has no relationship to how good the photo will be:

That is it no more postings until Sunday. Promise.

Great set, love them all.

It appears you intend to spend a bit of time with us, which is delightful. I'm sure Georg will be happy to have a fellow country man participating. It seems we have a few German speakers as well, as we've discovered lately.

I'd invite you to add your first name to your profile so we can refer to you by your real name rather than a username. This is a friendly group and we've gotten to know one another a bit over time. It also proves useful if you list your camera gear. Since we're talking gear it can be useful to know what another user is shooting with when making suggestions regarding lenses. I note you first arrived with a question about the 18 f/3.5. We're doing that all the time.

Welcome. Don't hesitate to jump into conversations. The more the merrier

So another week has flown by, with more too many great contributions to individual comment on. Unfortunately for some reason most pictures on this thread do not show up on my work computer, so I usually play catch up on the weekend.

I am still going trough my Cape Cod pictures. Here are a few others from that trip.

And a flower shot so folks will remember who I am... This taken with the 300 f/4.5 H AI'd. Very little done to the image in post. This is a very fine lens. And yes, Jose, I'll eventually compare it to the later version.

Great images everyone!

I've got nothing, squat, bupkis, zilch, nada, etc. to show.

I've been having to sit on the side as it's been way too busy to get out lately even with some stunning weather here in the Pacific Northwest.

Heading to South Dakota tomorrow for a week and hopefully I'll have some good stuff to post from the road.

- J

PS - It looks like the 16/3.5 AI, 45/2.8P, and 400/5.6 ED AI are the MF Nikkors going on the trip. The carry-on bag with my photo gear + laptop in it sure is going to be heavy . . . .

Bert, the first one from Martha's Vineyard with the colorful houses is very pleasant to look at!!

Here's a turtle basking in the morning Maryland sun. This one proudly held its ground after 7 turtles (in two groups of 4 and 3) slipped off into the water when I made the wrong noise - clicking the hood open on the 400 5.6 the first time, and too loud a step the second batch. Or maybe it was my loud shirt from the Reading WW2 show that they didn't like?

400 5.6 ED AIS + TC16A, wide open. I am really not sure the TC16A semi-AF is working much anymore. Last year it used to AF on the dot given enough contrast and after I did 90-95% of the focusing work manually.

A couple more from our front yard last week. Both with the 200mm f4 and tubes. As I am not a big fan of wasps (I stepped in a wasp nest when I was a teenager, not a pleasant experience) the added working distance is much welcome.
