Rafael, thanks for sharing your insights about the old 15's. How does the 18/3.5 fit in quality-wise?
I really like the koi-image, very cool use of the ultra-wide lens.
.

My 18 3.5, bouht new, is also a F8 and F11 lens, it is actually fairly sharp at 3.5 and 5.6 but with a lot of illumination falloff, vignetting, this can be used creatively. The 18mm is a bit sharper across the frame. The 18mm is also able to use a 72mm filter. All in all imho the 18 3.5 is a little better, and much cheaper at $500 instead of $1200. Other than vignetting, the 18mm is close to the 20mm performance.

Once I verified that it worked, the next thing I did was connect a set of tubes and a 105mm to it. I am still learning how to best use it, but it seems that some lenses are more compatible than others. Disabling the control dial for aperture is the fix for those lenses that act up (300mm and 600mm), I just have to remember to re-enable when I go back to those AF lenses.

Rafael, I love your 15mm lenses (the stuff of poor student photographer dreams 30 years ago...), but you really have to be a collector

Could not agree more Peter. Best justification for these lenses is collecting. It is like owning a 57 Chevy, it is a lot of fun to use them, but only under controlled conditions.

The TC16a works great with tubes and the 180mm.

Ray and Ronny, thanks for commenting.

Bert, what a spetacular macro of the fly + flower with the humble 135/3.5 + tube;

Ray, magnificent pano with 16/3.5, almost HDR-like;

Curtis, loved the beautiful chest set;

Peter, excellent captures of the Bar Throated Apalis;

Ronny, you continue to perfect (if that is possible!!) your art of flower photos with tubes!

Continuing the frugivorous birds series, this time with the 800/5.6 wide open, the acrobatic Sayaca Tanager:

Great bird shot Jose (as always!)

Thanks

Peter

Great Leighton - I hope a Pupusa is not a "papoose" and that you haven't bought the baby

Back from France, thanks a lot to Philippe for the travel tip, Belle Ile de mere was fantastic and lived up to it's name. Although I was told by a local I didn't visit France but I visited Breizh (the local name for Bretagne / Brittany). It seems France is really 3 countries in one, Breizh, Rest of France and then Paris. The hardline locals consider themselves a part of the Celtic nations like Wales (Cymru), Scotland (Alba), Ireland (Eire) etc.

Ray, Charleston really has charm. I'd love to see a comparative series setting the D7000 against the D600 - on the dimensions of my screen there's nothing in it.
