I took over 8 panoramas yesterday morning - here's the shortest of them comprised of JUST 3 portrait-oriented images:

400/5.6 ED AI @ f/8 - Naked (no CPL)

This one reminds me of something I should be seeing in the Nat. Geographic . . . .

I appreciate the kind comments about the foggy road. I've come to love the fog, and when my son asked for a ride that Morning...I closed the studio and shot until the sun burnt the fog off. It took me an hour to
drive him the ten miles to his apartment, but we enjoyed the time together. I wanted to mention some of the photos from the last few dozens of pages that I've enjoyed ...

Peter's Mount Whitney shots & 300mm pano + the burnt casino.
Ray's attack goose + misty river images.
Georg's Piano portrait, and spring beach goers + boats named after him. ;-)
Mihai's Noct 58 f1.2 night time cityscapes.
Monty's windy day portrait of Higgs.
John's golden sand shot & and Safeco field fisheye.
Rafael's car photos - Love the expressions with Batman.
Thor's metal working images.
Ben's 24mm PCE cityscapes.
Peter's south African beach & vintage cars.
Philippe's 180, 85mm Oppède-Le-Vieux photos.
Leighton's market shots.
Love Chin's dog nose.
Scott's swamp in spring
Jeff's canoe art + velvia/tmax sand toning
Laura's airplane adventures
Kevin's - is that ragweed - Loved the b&w portraits, and macros?
Ronny's flower close ups
AND Jose's flower close ups
Chuong's elegant tulip, as well as other flowers
Samy's goose head shot
Curtis' lovely peach rose
Philip - love the light and expression in Margot's portrait

Now here's a real monitor breaker - 17 portrait images stitched in PTGuiPro. 400/5.6 ED AI.

Sorry, but you all need 32 inch wide monitors

There seems to be some problem with FM tonight - I've been getting that intermittently with other images. Mine says that initially, but it eventually displays.

Leighton,

this image needs to be repeated again here and in other threads (post it in Best Nikon Shots, D600 images thread, and other places). Absolutely perfect. I hope you make a print for the parents, as they will treasure this image forever. Sometimes everything just comes together perfectly - no need for extra clarity to make an interesting image out of a dull one here.

I like this one best on my screen-challenged laptop - love the three layers of color, and how BLUE the water is without a CPL - you have some great light up there in the NW when the clouds get blown out of town. Do you use a wibal card, or just ballpark it based on in-camera white balance? I like he wibal card, but it doesn't really do anything for sunrise/sunset color correction when you want the cast on the image.

The wide version shows you took very good care of leveling the tripod, or you're as good at cropping and content-aware filling as I am with my handheld panos. I usually have some horizon creep. One of these days I'll get a leveling base, since the bubble level in the arca clamp isn't accurate enough.

That 400mm f5.6 ED is no slouch - been thinking about getting one or the 3.5, but first I want that really long lens. The 800mm in B&S is too long (and too expensive for MF) - 800mm f5.6 is a lens for people with a PhD in manual focusing who are shooting small critters primarily. In 7 years of motorsports shooting, when going long, I shot 600mm 90% of the time, 840mm 9.9%, and 1200mm 0.1% at the most. It's just too long and it was MF (f8 didn't AF on the EOS film bodies)

More output from the 82 million year old Alabama Hills that have served as movie location for at least 100 years (e.g. Iron Man 1 opening scenes). This one almost fell through the cracks as it was taken between several focus stacks. 20mm f3.5, 1/100 sec, f/11, ISO 100, polarized to the limit (first find the angle to the sun the polarizer works, best, then find a subject in that direction )

Adobe RGB or sRGB? My exif viewer keeps telling me I have the wrong color profile embedded in my JPEGs. Anyone see "the wrong colors?" here?

more 20mm f3.5 fun from the plane museum in Nebraska - those were dull shots out of camera, not so dull after enhancing what made them dull in the first place (backlight, gray on gray)

5 pages in next to no time - awesome!

Thanks Leighton, Jeff (if I could get my hands on the Woody I could live in CA!), Scott, Georg and James

Ben - your Oz pics are great as always - pity we won't be there for some time if at all. I'd love to see your Sydney through your eyes.

Georg - all the cruise images are good but the 16mm shot is fantastic!

John - My monitor is exactly 1/2 the width of your panos which are delightful

Peter B - Sevier Lake is great and the aircraft shots are remarkable.

Phillippe - you like a British car? Thanks . You also seem to be everywhere I was in Provence 12 years ago. We loved Cassis and the calanques nearby. Lovely image.

Leighton - the little girl in the jacket is tremendous!

Rafael - the test images are good - the "ugly" ground cover is of South African origin, so be nice to us. Thank you for the D200 images - you remind me that it is a wonderful tool that I have yet to master.

Scott - the farmhouse images are really good and reflect the mood very well.

Jose - the "dry" macro is terrific

Jeff - ' " sand and wire" - 5 stars

Ray - I like your complex and the images are beautiful

Kevin - you are becoming the "master of macro" on this thread. (C'mon James that's a challenge )

Thanks for the comments on my recently posted images - really much appreciated!
The shots taken with the 35/1.4 on the cruise-ship were nonsense, hope you all don't mind the silly post.
Here's another one from the ship, a bit more wildly framed, taken again with the fantastic 16/3.5 Ai:

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8271/8709803429_783b6e50bb_c.jpg
D700 at ISO 3200, 16/3.5 Ai at f/5.6, 1/30sec, handheld

Most other pictures I took today were shot with the 14-24/2.8 on the D3s, I love both cameras and lenses for this kind of stuff.

I like this perspective Georg. At first, I thought it was your house, then I read on.
