Thank you Leighton. I am never disappointed by the sharpness from the 28 2.8 ais. I think it is my best performer.

I need to get out of the house, I will do one posting and not be back for a week or so.

Was checking some of my theater photos with the 80-200 2.8 ais and the 50-300mm 4.5, both used at full aperture, I used to use the 2.8 with film and the early digital cameras, as the ISO had to stay low. Now I use the 50-300mm a lot more as it is a two ring zoom and seems much easier to focus.

There are a few photos that follow with the D200, D3 and the D800. The D200 I would not take any higher than ISO 560, the D3 and the D800 can be taken to ISO 3200 in the theater while retaining good color and overall quality. The D3 wins at the pixel level but the D800 wins at print size. There is no question in my minds that for this game the real camera to have today is the D4.

and finally the D800 50-300mm 4.5 at ISO 3200. not as good as the D3, but all those pixels process really well

This was downsized to 12MP

So far I'm liking mine too, but I tend not to shoot that wide. In fact if anyone is looking for a 24mm f2.8 ai I have one I'll let go. Just PM me.

The 28 works well for me on the D7000 as a standard lens. On FX it would be a bit wider.

My photo challenge was a little longer than his 15 minute sprints...

105mm f2.5, wide open, tripod, 1/5 sec no flash, lots of CLARITY added, Hoey-style

Sometimes images benefit from a lot of clarity, this is one of those times.

Leighton - I'd go for a mix of 1 AND 2. The black and white takes out some interesting elements - for example the cord going under the traffic cap is green on one side and blue on the other.

Maybe you could bring the colour of the background down a little to accentuate the foreground colour without actually going all the way to B & W (the B& W plus colour draws attention to itself imho) - and try to keep the cord in colour. You could also lighten the background - or reduce contrast of the background - again that would help accentuate the foreground element that you appear to want to highlight.
