Those are very nice. One question. I know you said that you could not focus wide open, so you closed down to f4. Why not focus at f4 then open up to whatever? Shouldn't affect focus other than altering DOF. Is this why? No guarantee on the DOF being where you want it? I have done that with my 135Q with good results.

Kevin, what I meant is that in that one photo I was looking up at the stained glass, it was not all perpendicular to the lens, but at a steep angle, I could focus on any part of it fine at 1.4 but the rest would be outside the plane of focus, to bring the whole image into focus the only option was to increase the depth of field by closing down the aperture. This is where a tilt lens comes in handy by allowing tilting the lens to match the plane of focus to the plane of the image.

For some reason the 5.8 cm is easier to focus on the camera dot than the 55 1.2, and much easier than the 50 1.2.

Gotcha! I figured that's what a tilt shift lens did, but have never played with one.

Rafael, beautiful images with the 5.8cm. Have to check out the difference in focusing with the 55.

Here's a mourning dove keeping an eye on me. 400 5.6 ED AIS + TC16A.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

Samy - I really like your water Lilly (I think?) Shot. Perfect candidate for a B&W conversion.

Chuong - Nice last shots with the D700, you're going to love the raw files of the D600.

Howard - Very cool snail abstract!

Ben - I'm relieved that SOMEONE saw the sweat running off of me.

Curtis - Thanks for the links, they're very useful. Scott took my teasing rather well.

Photoshoot was a dud today. One couple showed up and the 80-200 was way to long for the space I had to shoot in, used the 50. On Dx, thats a 75mm, so it did OK. Very disappointing.

Sorry it was a bust, keep trying.

Had to make sure this made it to the next page, great shot Chin! I'm not sure what it looks like on your computer, but it looks fine on my calibrated monitor.

I love this shot Chin. I'm glad you pulled out to one MF lens to take it. This may be evening but it feels like morning... It goes well with my morning Earl Grey tea...

Thanks Jeff and Georg.

Excellent shots from everyone!

Samy, loved your work with the 13.5cm and the 400+ TC16!

Samy, nice color in this. The surroundings complement the dove well.

Some lovely shots this weekend, I wish I had more than a few moments and could comment on them all, but thanks to everyone for sharing.

Thanks also for the kind comments on the peacock shots.

I just have one I'd like to contribute, 300mm at sunset. Pre aimed before the sun reached the building so as not to look into the sun which is not reccomended.

Georg - great street shots and I love the orange juice on the barrel - the others are also tops.

Jeff - I hope you have a wall full of great prints like "balloon". Magic.

Rafael - lovely Packard pics. Also the Buddhist images.

Phillippe - you just keep making excellent captures! However, Armagnac or Calvados may improve your angle of view

Curtis - the bench is outstanding!!

Jose - the epiphyte is awesome!

Chin - well trained bees. Immaculate as always.

Leighton and Scott - love the interaction. Don't believe that Leighton actually snatched the bag out of Barbara's hands for the shot! How low can you go?

Samy - beaut bird and water lily!

needed to change this post - the image was on a 20-35mm AF lens after all...

but a recent D7000 300mm f/4.5 EDIF can stand in, as I move the other one to the MF shooting AF thread
