Here's an image I took yesterday at a documentation- and memorial center in a former detention awaiting jail-house of the infamous and feared "Stasi":

D3s at ISO6400, 20/3.5Ais at f/8, 1/25sec, handheld
I have always weird feelings about shooting there: doing "artsy" photography just for fun feels like being disrespectful towards the victims of the "Stasi".
But I couldn't resist yesterday to snap some images like the one above.

Laura, these ^^prints look even better than the first one (the view from the tower)! Love the real sloppy borders

Curtis, thanks again. My English is just a robbed-together mix of phrases (in the best case stolen from Monty-Python-movies, in the worst case borrowed from Monty-Python-movies too ;-).

Curtis, loved your excellent comparison of the 135's + 50-135/3.5 at 135. And great first images with your new 135/2.8K. Loved the lens porns too.
But for a proper comparison you need to buy the 135/3.5 Q -QC + 135/3.5AI-as as they have distinct optical designs

I think my scalloped collection is virtually complete now that the 20/3.5 UD arrived from Canada after more than 60 desperate days (Brazilian post is driving me nuts lately... ).
A little lens porn: poor B&W conversion (I am not an expert like Georg), but just to combine with the old-timers lenses shown here:

Scalloped Nikkor by labecoaves, on Flickr

D600 + Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 ais + tripod + flash/diffuser; ISO 500, f/4 at 1/60s.

3 horizontal shots pano.

From left to right: U.D 20mm f/3.5 F factory ai'd; N.C 28mm f/2 C factory ai'd; O.C 35mm f/2 C DIY ai'd; H.C 50mm f/2 C DIY ai'd; P 105mm f/2.5 F (Sonnar) DIY ai'd; P.C 105mm f/2.5 C (Gauss) DIY ai'd; Q.C 135mm f/3.5 C DIY ai'd; and Q.C 200mm f/4 C DIY ai'd.
All made in 1972-1974, except the Sonnar design 105/2.5, made ~1963-64.

Who knows if one day all remains of sanity inside me are lost and I will go for a H or HC 85/1.8 or the 300/4.5 H

Need more time now to shoot extensively with these lenses.

Congrats on the UD Jose, looking forward to the photos.

I love all things AV as well ... have a nice set-up in Aus, but in HK we are a little pushed for space

MF Nikkors & certain speakers are not a bad investment as far as the pleasure/bucks spent ratio goes ! As you say, TV's and everything else get obsolete pretty quickly ... even an update to an AF lens will render your current one obsolete.

Good speakers and MF lenses can give a lot of pleasure for a very long time.

Hear ye! Hear ye! Dean in Hong Kong speaks the truth.

Plus these made in San Diego PA Carvin speakers are like old Nikkor lenses, cheap and last forever. Plus the set here shown is rated 1600W RMS and the amplifier can only push 500W. Will never blow them out.

That is SO painful to see. I would LOVE that lens but there it is in Europe. Of course, it gets rather horrid reviews so the joy would come in the form, not the performance... What a beautiful lens!

I must correct Curtis, he is right that the reviews are horrid but the bad lens is the 300 4.5 P. the 300 4.5 H is a good performer even on the D800. Not a great performer but a solid one and a bargain in the US.

Big day in HK today ... the annual Dragon Boat holiday with lots of racing all over the place. I only had an hour or so, but went down to Stanley Beach pretty early this morning and grabbed a few with the 180/2.8.

I also posted one of a very "cheeky" fairy on the AF thread

Thanks Ray, Georg, Curtis, Laura and Rafael.

Georg, you too playing as the devil's adjutant!!
Too bad I am ignorant of German language, but the lens appears to be in excellent shape.
BTW, I am impressed by the details at the "Kerkhoff-Haus";

Laura, loved your artistic prints;

Rafael, in spite the UD is cosmetically very good, I spotted some haze or dust at the rear (inside) element - I plan to send it to a CLA next week; first quick tests revealed the newer 20/2.8 ais is visibly sharper at borders, but I hope at least partially this can be due to the haze/dust.

Since we are showing the scalloped ring collections, here is mine in focal length order, I am missing several key lenses: 35 1.4 N, 55 3.5, 105s, 135s. I am a cheapskate so there is a bunch of 50mms that I enjoy.

in order:
8mm 2.8 ais, 20mm 3.5 UD, 24mm 2,8N, 28mm 3.5 H, 28mm 2.8 nc, 3.5 cm 2.8s. 50 1.4 s, 5cm 2 s, 50mm 2 H, 5.8cm 1.4s, 50 1.4 sc, 55 1.2s. 55 1.2 sc, 85 1.8 H, 200 4 Q, 200 4 QC, 300 4.5 H, 400 4.5 P, 600 5.6 P.

Well defended pirate treasure.

Wow Rafael, very nice collection, always near mint copies!!

With your tolerance I will post a "bokeh battle" at short focusing distance (~55cm) of my current 50mm primes.

General scene, my Neapolitan miniature owl and a crumpled aluminium foil behind, including also other 3 minor owls:

50mm-bokeh-MFD-general-setup by labecoaves, on Flickr

All shots were taken with D600 + tripod + remote shutter + tungsten lamp. Live view focusing on the left eye of the owl.
Straight from the camera NEFs, no edititing - printscreen from fastone viewer - CS6 - web resized.
Always from left to right:
50mm f/1.2ais, 50mm f/1.8ai, H.C 50mm f/2.

All wide open:

50mm-bokeh-MFD-wide-open by labecoaves, on Flickr

50/1.2 not surprisingly stands out.

At f/2:

50mm-bokeh-MFD-at-f2 by labecoaves, on Flickr

The 50/1.2 shows polygons while the others not!

At f/2.8:

50mm-bokeh-MFD-at-f2.8 by labecoaves, on Flickr

Now the polygons are clearly visible for all lenses.

Jose - So how did you get the oval bokeh shapes to come up circular from the wide-open shot with the 1.2 AIS?
Looks like it gets more "ovalized" as they move away from the center...

Hi Guys,

I just got my second Nikon manual focus lens. Once again I'm impressed.

Check out my Nikkor-Q Auto 135mm f2.8

The main reason why I got this lens is because of my experiences with the Nikkor 50mm F2. This lens is overlooked because of other 50mm lenses that are faster. Here's an example of how sharp this lens is.

Initial tests of the 135mm are showing similar results!

Ray, we are not trying to impress, we are sharing our pride and joy and would like to see more from the rest of us.

I would love to see a collection of all E lenses

The UD is not very sharp in the corners at any aperture, but for most real pictures it works just fine. Sorry about the dust, if you have a good repair person it should come out OK, the lens sure looks gorgeous. I need to send my 15mm 3.5 to nikon el segundo, it has no dust but one element got hazy!

Beautiful colors in this parrot, the 50 2 works great in your D3200. One of the forum members, Ben, lives in Sidney as well.
