Curtis, as usual very nice images of flowers and lenses, not exactly shocking news, but that's good

Alan, wow, what a fantastic portrait of your son, I can see so much joy in his eyes...

Roberto, thanks for sharing your insights about the rare Zoom-Nikkor! The large version looks really sharp indeed.

Roland, very nice framing on your mountain-shot!

Nima, nice to see you stopping by.

Mark, nice set, but I prefer to skip the guessing game ;-)

Nice music Rafael... you have a few toys in your home in addition to your fine collection of Nikkor lenses. Life appears to have treated you well, which is the best any of us can hope for...

For the good of the order I want to mention an E-Bay auction for a lens much prized on this thread...

Nikon 16 f/3.5 AI

You have to look carefully since this seller has no idea what he is doing. From an angle in one photo I see a serial number that tells me this is an AI lens. It might be worth confirming the

You can tell from the aperture ring that it's an AI (or has been converted). Seems like a good deal especially since it has a 14 day return policy.

Anyone up for a quick game?

4 photos, the flowers of 4 culinary plants. Taken with tubes and either the 28mm, 50mm or 55mm lens. Anyone care to guess which is which? And anyone able to identify which plants the flowers are from gets bonus points.

P.S. No peeking at the EXIF data, it's wrong on at least 1 pic anyway.

So I obviously need to stop buying pre-AI lenses... I've run out of space on top of the tansu where I'm taking lens photos...

Of course, I could group the lenses like this... mmm, not a good idea to be thinking like that...

I left an orphan out of the mix, the 28 f/3.5 H AI'd that was hidden in the dark recesses at the back of my cabinet. No room on the tansu I'm afraid. I'd better sell that 135 f/2.8 K AI'd that arrived in my kit because I had one too many glasses of bourbon late one night...

So I have a baker's dozen... mmm.

I don't want any orphans around here... but this is not long term solution. It will do for now, however.

Yes, there is a bit of money invested in this set of lenses, but only one cost more than $400, one other more than $300 and one other over $200. Four were under a hundred dollars. This is a very affordable hobby, in my humble opinion. And, I've little doubt that my investment is protected since these lenses will continue to become more valuable with time... But most importantly, I'm having fun. Now I need to go out and take some photos...

It is never easy for me to sell a lens Ray, so who knows what will happen to this happy tribe. I do know that I love using these old lenses, so nothing else really matters. And the family extends from what appears on this surface, to all the folks who hang out on this and related threads. It is our love of these lenses that binds us together in the most delightful way. That, frankly, is more important than anything else. If all I did was stare at these lenses, I'd get pretty bored pretty quickly. But there is seldom a dull moment when hanging out on this thread.

Now to house hunting...

Curtis, don't sell any, just give me the 85mm to make room, at the same time keeping it in the family.

Chin and John - thanks. I have the same question, didn't see any kids around this heavy-metal-thingie.
In the background is a semi-spherical thing made out of metal too. A table-tennis-table (made out of concrete and guess what: stainless steel) is completing this ensemble.
It's a strange world I live in ;-)

Curtis, loved your excellent comparison of the 135's + 50-135/3.5 at 135. And great first images with your new 135/2.8K. Loved the lens porns too.
But for a proper comparison you need to buy the 135/3.5 Q -QC + 135/3.5AI-as as they have distinct optical designs

I think my scalloped collection is virtually complete now that the 20/3.5 UD arrived from Canada after more than 60 desperate days (Brazilian post is driving me nuts lately... ).
A little lens porn: poor B&W conversion (I am not an expert like Georg), but just to combine with the old-timers lenses shown here:

Scalloped Nikkor collection by labecoaves, on Flickr

D600 + Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 ais + tripod + flash/diffuser; ISO 500, f/4 at 1/60s.

3 horizontal shots pano.

From left to right: U.D 20mm f/3.5 F factory ai'd; N.C 28mm f/2 C factory ai'd; O.C 35mm f/2 C DIY ai'd; H.C 50mm f/2 C DIY ai'd; P 105mm f/2.5 F (Sonnar) DIY ai'd; P.C 105mm f/2.5 C (Gauss) DIY ai'd; Q.C 135mm f/3.5 C DIY ai'd; and Q.C 200mm f/4 C DIY ai'd.
All made in 1972-1974, except the Sonnar design 105/2.5, made ~1963-64.

Who knows if one day all remains of sanity inside me are lost and I will go for a H or HC 85/1.8 or the 300/4.5 H

Need more time now to shoot extensively with these lenses.

Got the camera out with the venerable 50 f2 H lens self ai'd.

This is a marvellous piece of equipment - Thomas Pindelski (thanks Jose!) has a lot to say about it at http://pindelski.org/Photography/2012/03/05/nikkor-h-auto-50mm-f2/
