Paul, wonderful work with the 135 Q. It appears to be fine lens with excellent sharpness, as well as good color and contrast. I won't likely go shopping at that focal length since I have two MF lenses at 135 but it is lovely to see it in the hands of someone who can give it justice. I look forward to your work as well Kevin.

Chuong, these are very nice. I like the touch of color in the lampshade in the first and the nice background in the second.

Thanks Georg and Ray.

Mihai, what a gorgeous portrait with the Sonnar 105; did you use it wide open or at least f/2.8?

Georg, great "tasteless" shot, beautiful and artistic at the same time, and a great application of the 16/3.5;

Samy, Laura and Chuong, another impressive flower collection from you.

Curtis, beautiful scalloped collection, but I think you need this beauty to have a more complete collection :

Inspired by the flower boom from the last 2-3 days, these are my humble contributions.

Some of the first "real world" tests with the 135mm f/3.5 ais + Nikon 3T close up lens.

Nikkor 135mm f/3.5 ais + 3T close up lens test by labecoaves, on Flickr

D600 + Nikkor 135mm f/3.5 ais + 3T close up lens, lens at MFD, ISO 250, f/11 at 1/800s hand held. The flower has, at most, 1 inch (2.54cm) in diameter. Light was mid-moorning sun.

D600 + Nikkor 135mm f/3.5 ais + 3T close up lens, lens at MFD, ISO 500, f/8 at 1/400s hand held. The light was a late afternoon sun.

It is definitely a gorgeous lens but the 4 elements in 4 groups does not stir Bjorn's juices. While the later versions from K through AI-s are given very high marks 4.5 to 5, the earlier lens is given a 2.5. I'm not certain it is a very sensible investment. I love the old lenses, but function matters to me more than form. The pre-AI lenses now in my kit all perform exceptionally well, the best of form and function. That is why my buying days might be over...

Well, I was going a little stir-crazy so I put on my pirate patch and went out for some one-eyed shooting with the 180mm 2.8 and PK-13 extension tube. A few were in focus, I think.

Got to teach a few beginning photog students a little bit about macro work today. Was fun! Outside was a little bit breezy, but did manage a few between gusts.

All shots with PK13...

First up is the Nikkor-Q 135/2.8. Other than the crop, SOOC

Jeff, the 180 f/2.8 AI-s with extension tubes has long been a favorite for me and you've really done some fine work here. While it is generally useful to stop down when shooting with tubes, the sharpness of this lens wide open makes doing so always a pleasure, as your photos demonstrate. I'm glad you found a way to do a bit of photography. The wonderful thing about working with tubes is that ANYTHING can make an interesting subject. Of course, those of us in California have flowers to shoot. We're pretty lucky in that regard...

This morning I grabbed a shot with the 85 f/1.8 H AI'd. Shot at f/2.8 on a very bright day that definitely felt like summer. But no tubes...

Georg, great bottle picture! Wish to help you drink the content, whatever the name is...

Samy, great looking flower "portraits" with 85!

Paul, the Roman soldiers has beautiful eyes... I'm not sure if the "actor" was selected right for the brutality of the role... but the portrait is impressive!

Ben, good to see you back... with so nice pictures!

Chuong, I also like the window shot!

Jose, I usually shoot 105/2.5 wide open but that particular portrait was stopped down at f4. Lovely use of your 135/3.5... a lens I must try one day!

Jeff, I only can sey "Wow!" looking at your pictures!

Kevin, I'm amazed to see what are you producing with that "modest" E lens...

It seems that lately 45/2.8P is a trendy lens in this thread... Curtis, your shopping days are NOT over untill you get your own copy of it!

I'm up much too late Mihai when I'm speaking directly to you...

The 45 f/2.8 is too small a lens for me. Yes, it appears to be a great performer and I'm delighted to see John and others put the lens through its paces. But I have four 50mm lenses and one 55mm lens, so I don't think there is need for a 45. Small lenses work for some folks who are trying to lighten their load. Yes, the 45 weighs 120 grams while the 50 f/2 H.C. AI'd I bought for $56 weighs 205. The 45 gets great reviews, but guess what? The 50 f/2 gets even better reviews... I think I'm in good shape since I don't hike up mountains...

Ben (from Boston), that's a fantastic set! I especially like the second B&W-shot: great tones and a very nice rendering of the background (the bit of ghosting works great too).

Kevin, Jeff, Jose, Curtis and Samy - wow, lotsa amazing blossom-shots!

Paul, amazing work with the 135/2.8 Q! The soldiers portrait is stunning.

And thanks for the comments on the sparkling wine - but honestly, I think it's just a bad picture with some nice, eye-catching sun-stars. Sometimes I think I look too much for "cheap effects".

Chuong, love the blossom taken with 135/2. The background-colors are wonderfully muted.

Never say too many... At least in this department (around 50mm) I'm leading you I think I have an obsession for this focal length... W/O to consider the zooms my gear list at 50 +/- 10mm looks like:

C/V 40mm f/2
Nikon 45mm f/2.8 AI-P
Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AI long nose version
Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AIS pancake version
Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AF-S G
Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S G - loaned to a friend, probably for ever
Sigma 50mm f/1.4
Zeiss 50mm f/2 MP
Nikon 55mm f/1.2 AI
Nikon Noct 58mm f/1.2 AI-S

and I was looking for the 50/2 AI as well... but I lost my interest after I read some opinions that this lens which is a great performer on D700 is quite modest on D800, unlike the regular 50/1.8 AI-S or 45/2.8P which are quite stellar on the 36MP sensor.

Believe me or not - I have a use for each one of the listed lenses... each one has its own character and advantage so it's a pleasure to have the right lens at the right application (Do not share the list with my wife please! This is an area where wives better be ignorant )
