I'm not somnolent Curtis - I'm awestruck:
Ronny's firefly series is unbelievable (the out of focus flying one is breathtaking),
Leighton's boy in the puddle is very cute.
Georg's flying man is just one of those shots - right photog, right place, right time.
John's niece twirling is beyond praise - I love everything about that shot - even without John saying I could see she was twirling for all she was worth - the pic captures that - and puts it in a wonderful space

Thank you for posting these. I had been kind of looking at my D7000 with a little bit of disdain. The light I get to shoot in often screws with the contrast in my pictures and blows out easily. Seeing these, I just need to work harder I think...

Kevin, had I known how good the D7000 really is, I may never have traded up to the D600. I am glad I did for many reason, but after editing these old D7000 files a second time, now in CS6, I realize there's a lot more in those RAW files than I thought there was.

Take for example the Corsair shot posted here before - last year's color version first

and today in CS6 - the purple and green fringing in the star took a minute to completely fix with the new tools in Camera Raw, and the process to get the exposure right is totally different, but now I have detail even in the highlights without underexposing the rest

another one! as you may recall I have a bunch of 5X mm nikkors. Love the different signatures of the old lenses, have a 5.8cm with perfect glass but it is not ai converted and I hesitate to cut it. Luckily there was this already ai converted lens on the bay, reasonable price, reported with great glass, just a little dust, bought and will keep my fingers crossed that the description is accurate. if you are curious here is a link to a couple of reviews, this lens has the best bokeh of all 50s.

Gorgeous lens Roberto. You definitely have come to the right place to show off that beauty. Rafael has ventured into this territory as well and we've had a number of discussions on these oldest lenses. My evolution has taken me from AI and AI-s glass into the world of converted pre-AI lenses, but I've not gotten into these really old lenses. That probably comes in part because there are no AI conversion kits available for the oldest lenses and I have a strong aversion to cutting aperture rings. I certainly have no judgment of those who do take that route and have appreciated the skill with which some of our members take that direction. Jose posted photos of one of his modifications that was done quite beautifully. Perhaps I'll find my way there yet, since I've been very impressed with the older lenses as I've added new ones to my kit. But this is a beauty. Thanks for the photo. We call this lens porn...

Tomorrow I pick up the accidental lens I bought early last week... a K lens with an old optical design and an AI conversion kit that I mistook for a Q.C. lens, the 135 f/2.8. In honor of the occasion I'll post a couple of photos taken with the lens that motivated me to look for a pristine copy. The one I bought, a Q.C., is in fact very clean. I was just dabbling in perfectionism... But I do really like how this lens performs.

Thank you Curtis, I had bought here the AI conversion kit as soon as I saw the lens on the web (in an italian shop 1 hour drive from my house).
It looks like the original ring is different than usual pre-AI ring: the ring is shorter and than it dosn't interfere with the aperture, so you can mount the lens without aperture control.
The lens I bought has been modified, it has not been cut but a piece of metal has been added in order to couple with the aperture lever (it is visible in the picture). The lens is fully functional and the original ring is preserved.

Many AI conversion kit are available and there is no need to cut the original ring, so no more excuses Curtis, your collection deserve some more old lenses.

Nice pictures with the 135mm f/2.8 QC in the last few pages.

Fantastic shot John! The framing and subject are just perfect.

I love the others from the exhibit as well. You may remember that Tony from D.C. shot the same exhibit with Nikki when it was in Richmond, VA. In fact, the image with the glass balls is almost identical to his. Well done my friend.

Curtis, how about a comparison between the Q.C., K and the AI-s?

Two images taken for Samy - long promised shots of the remains of the former "Heinkel-Werke" in my hometown.
These pictures are not exactly what I had in my mind, but I had a bit of spare-time, a few MF-Nikkor's in the bag and it wasn't raining this morning ;-)

Great Lens Roberto, I have one bought a long time ago and would be interested in sample photos from yours. The ai ring is still available as you show.

I have a strong preference for the original ai ring for old lenses, but for those that never had a conversion kit (mostly the ones with no screws in the bayonet mount), unless the lens is truly like new, or a special serial number, a well cut aperture ring is fine.

There is a facebook group of true collectors, not users like us, with members like mr. de Stoutz and Sover Wong. Members of this group often buy a factory ai converted lens and want to trade the ai ring for the original non-ai, I recommend joining it.

Nice ones Georg,
A pity not too much remaining of where the worlds first jet fighter took off but thanks for sharing.
