Jose - Beautiful sky shot, really nice colors.

Samy - The first Cardinal shot is fantastic. Very good job with composition.

Jeff - The Poppies are popping! Hard to beat the 55mm f2.8.

Rafael - Thanks for all the 50/55 demos. I still think it's sharper at 5.6, even if it's my mind playing games with me.

Mark - Welcome back, looks like we'll be seeing some beautiful countryside from you!

Well yesterday was the opening day of our Farmers' market. I was so busy that I didn't have much time for shooting. I did get a couple though. The first one is of a new vendor. They make Pupusa's and let me tell you, they are great! Both of these are with the 50-135.

Dear All,

I've just returned from a weeks camping by Lake Garda, not the warmest camping I've ever done but one of the prettiest spots. I have 30 pages to catch up on and 800+ images to go through which put the 35-70mm f/3.5 and the Series E 75-150mm (programmed in camera as "80mm") through their paces and they did very well, I'm sure that's no surprise to most of you.

Here's some teasers SOOC. I'll post a selection from each lens and a bit of my thoughts on them later.

Cheers,
Mark.

I have many more photos to post from San Francisco but will be busy for part of today. Perhaps later. I want to get all my photos posted so when Ben has the lens in his hands he can have the thread to himself for the farewell photo set from our much loved Nikkor.

What a great shot !! The B&W treatment is excellent too. Awesome stuff.

Pretty sad that it's all coming to an end. We still have Ben's tour of Sydney to look forward too.

What a lens in such capable hands !!!!

Brilliant images, Anton.

Love the second one, Leighton ... looking forward to seeing more candids and portraits from the farmer's market.

Quick question ... those of you who have gone from a D700 to a D800, do you find that the D800 over exposes a lot?

It's driving me a bit crazy actually Seems to happen way, way, way more than it did with my D700.

I have to admit ... in my situation a D800 really didn't give me much over the D700. In many ways I kind of like the D700 better.

I was just taking stock of all my images I have stored on my computer and wow, I have a lot...(over 400GB, just from my D7000...I have three other cameras, plus my wife's too) What do you folks do to archive your photos? Do you keep DNG, PSD, NEF...? I was thinking of keeping only the DNG and PSD, plus a web size JPG. What do you folks think?

I import an entire year's files into one foder on my computer's hard drive.
I use Time Machine (Mac) to back this folder up into a folder on an external drive. (Into another folder that has each year's output.)
I use an application Chronosynch scheduler (very good) to back this folder up into another external drive. So at any time I have 3 copies of this year's photograph's. At the end of the year I trash the current year folder.

I use G Drives for my backups, in RAID arrays. I have approx 10TB of total storage space. I am storing my photography, client files (I do graphic identity work), and personal files.

Dean, I haven't come across overexposure in D800, although maybe its relative since I came from D300/D7000.

Putting the TC16A to more work. Added it to the 400mm f/5.6 AIS, for a 640mm ~f/9 combo. In good light, the combo works fine (snapping to the green dot once the focus ring is manually adjusted to close to the focus area) when the lens is wide open. Stopping it down to f/8 (effective aperture ~f/13), the combo really struggles.

Here's two heron images from this morning. Handheld, 1/2000s, ISO 1250, lens wide open.

Another observation was the vignetting that I haven't noticed with the 400mm lens alone.

Overall image quality is good, but not as crisp as with the 500 F4 P/TC16A combo.

Wow! What a couple of days work - really far too much to comment on.

Jose - thanks for the link to Thomas Pindelsky. Also more great shots.

Phillippe - good to see you back, even if you are John Hinckey's doppelganger!

Jeff - if these don't push John over the 500/4 edge nothing will.

Great shots everyone.

One more from this morning's walk with the 400mm + TC-16A.

This time a small bird, I believe the Eastern Bluebird. Again handheld, 1/1600s, ISO 1250, lens wide open for an effective aperture about f/9.

Out with a camera in our "in town" nature reserve resurrected from an old quarry many years ago. Nature has taken it back with a little help and it supports a large variety of indigenous flora, birds and small animals.
