Reagan. #2 is my favorite. It's beautiful. I haven't seen such a nice flowers shot like this in a long time.

These deserved another look! Is the second shot (B&W) a crop??

No allergies for us but our shoes were covered in a yellow pollen
They were only about 50% in bloom because of the late cold weather but I couldn't tell

Thanks Ray and Georg for the comments.

Georg, I was just reporting what the ultimate specialist on Herculaneum, Dr. Andrew Wallace-Hadrill wrote in his fresh book -
http://www.amazon.com/Herculaneum-Past-Future-Andrew-Wallace-Hadrill/dp/0711231427
Looking at those embedded containers there is no way to put heating on them.
Liquids were stored in amphorae like these ones:
http://www.fuzzytravel.com/jerryott1/pictures/amalfi-coast/307811-amphorae-found.html

Reagan, excellent flowers, liked the most the first and last ones;

Curtis you mastered the little and beautiful 24/2.8 N.C;

Georg, over-processed or not, I liked the "wet stone".

went to the R&D gallery of the NMUSAF today, in between the injection and the bone scan. Foot is still in "the shoe" as it's still swollen enough that I can't put a regular shoe on.

Processed these both the normal way I do, then ran them again through NIK, kept forgetting to change the lens database, so it may or may not be right....

I was surprised to learn that portions of the bridge over land ride on rubber cushions tended to isolate the bridge from earthquake jolts.

Here is a link to some facts about the bridge.

Golden Gate Bridge Facts

For instance, the weight of the cables and suspender cables is 24,500 TONS...

Being an engineer (though of the aerodynamics type) I can certainly appreciate these images. Interesting to see what parts are bolted/welded (more modern) versus riveted (original). Looks like a lot of earthquake retrofitting has gone on since it was first constructed (note what looks like a vibration damper/flexible support in the third image - the black "squished" thing).

Also looks like there's some rust in them there images too . . .

I bet there's some great close-up graphic-type image possibilities.

Fantastic stuff Curtis!

Played with 2 Fisheye-lenses at the Baltic Sea this late evening - it was cold, cold, cold (a stiff breeze came over the open sea directly from Ronnys beautiful country ;-).
I've never tried to shoot some stars before and while I'm not happy with the resulting images I could have done worse (tipping the tripod over, for instance).

the lights at the horizon are from ships or my Danish neighbors - D3s, ISO12800, 30sec 16/3.5 at f/5.6

looking east-north-east (Hi, Ronny ;-) - lot's of lights on the water and the shore - D3s, 30sec at ISO8000, 16/3.5 at f/5.6

Laura, beautiful work on the planes!
I especially like the very first image for it's shiny appearance. In all cases I prefer the original versions.
How's your 300/2.8 doing? Already tried this gem on the V1?

Jose, another very nice set from the Herculaneum! Regarding the bar-counter: sorry, I was just joking about buoyant Romans.
I should read more scientific books and watch less sword and sandal movies ;-)

Reagan, spring-image #2 is very, very well done! The snow is slowly melting here, it will take some more sunny days for winters heritage to say bye.

Roberto, nice to hear from you. I see the blankets on your beautiful picture - still no spring in Italy?

Ronny, beautiful portraits of your daughter! Somehow I feel your NIK-treatment (?) is not very skin-friendly - hope you don't mind this minor critics.

Curtis, the plants are very nice B&W-subjects indeed. The tones are maybe a bit "chalky", but I really like the shot.

Thanks Georg and Kev, looks like the fisheyes are coming back out to play again too Love the star sets, something I haven't tried yet.

Haven't lugged the 300 anywhere yet to shoot, finals are in a month, yikes, and I've got a paper due at the end of the month that I need to get cracking on .

I like these. Shooting at night is tough when you have man-made light in the area. For 30 second exposures, I am not seeing a lot of star trails, did you use something to keep the camera aligned with the stars?

Thanks Laura, and best of luck for your paper-work.

Kevin, thanks! In an online-tutorial I've read that if the exposure time is shorter than (600 divided by the focal-length) there should be no star-trails. It seemed to work for me (600/16=37.5, exposure time was 30seconds).

They look great to me! My experience with these types of images is that the post processing of the stars in the sky is key to making them look the best. I've not mastered this step and I've found it a bit hard to get things to look "right" without inducing some ugly color casts.
