Some shots from a day trip to Technorama, the Swiss Science and technology museum, with my son. All taken with the 105mm f2.5. It's not so easy to get lots of photos plus stop a 21 month old child from getting into trouble with all the hands on experiments about but got a few shots.

Mark, I like the last one as it reminds me of my old job, thanks for sharing.

Mark - very nice images from the science museum. Don't worry if your son breaks anything, that's how the inventors learned

Thanks Peter, my fear is at the moment everytime my son breaks something he brings it to me on the assumption I can fix everything. But going to this museum showed me how rusty my physics and chemistry has gotten since I left Uni (and how far it has moved since then). Not sure I can fix a giant slinky, let alone a 539.5nM Xenon gas laser!

Took the 55mm f1.2 and the 135mm f2.8 for a spin tonight before sunset. First time I used the Nikkor Q 135mm on full frame since the early 1990s. Something is wrong with the mount on it - real tight, and when removing, it tends to go past the spot all other lenses stop and release. Not sure what that is, but I have to be very careful with this one. It's a beauty, though - made in 1971, I think.

Peter, the last few sets are super, but this set stands out.

Nice sets with the ole Q. What does your serial start with? Mine is an early 71 also I believe.

Oh! Almost forgot. Nothing wrong with your mount. Mine is tight also and appears to go farther to remove too. I tried a mint sample at the LCS (local camera shop) and it was tight and "off" too.

Kevin,

my copy is 210434 made in the middle of these numbers 189945 - 247708 from 1969 to 1971. There are ball bearings inside these lenses! I had it apart once before I sent it to John White for AI conversion (who could not get it back together properly and didn't charge me, but since I had had hit the same snag myself before, I knew how to fix it - difficult to get the aperture lever into the right place, to say the least)

it's the tank second from the right

Good to know mine isn't the only one that is tight on the mount. Something subtle must be different with this lens, since the older 55mm f1.2 mounts just fine.

Peter

Tired of looking at this lens sitting in the case due to my laziness. 100% crop from about 100ft with the 200-400mm ED-AIS

More from yesterday with the Nikkor-Q 135mm f2.8.

this was f4 I think, ISO 800, 1/1000s - infrared converted in CS6

f/2.8, 1/1000s ISO 320 about a 50% crop of a vertical frame

the budget corner - f/8 1/100s ISO 320

kinda boring Main Street shot - focus was on the first tree, wished I had had the time to focus on the person, but she was gone on the next frame

f/2.8 1/640s ISO 100

this one I figured would look good in B+W, but nothing I did with the CS6 Channel converter looked as good as color straight out of ACR - don't like the big fat planter and the cyclist in the frame either - but too difficult to clone out of there

f/16 1/60s ISO 100

the radical solution:

I like this one the most - shows the curiosity so well, plus has that sci-tech lighting you get in your usual tech photographs. Actually, looking at your series, I decided to bring my camera down into our data center - full of flashing lights and cool looking geometry. Wonder if I am violating some big "Verboten" rules doing that, so I better check first...

you're going to make me click the Buy-it-Now button on a long lens if you keep posting samples like this.

I've been a good boy and have NOT bought the 600mm f/4 yet, but there are two on ebay that interest me a lot - one very nice with all the papers and case, the other one still nice, but clearly more used and no case, $600 less - but from a seller in Canada, which wuld make returns a real pain. undecided, which is good, because all this talk about CC's camera shake reduction filter and those crisp long range detail shots have me itching to invest into glass that clearly has held its value for over a decade (a friend sold the 500mm f/4p 10 years ago for $2000, today you can't find a nice one like his under $2200)

Mine is in the second round made between 71-73. I got lucky with mine, already AI converted. Glad I didn't have to take my copy apart. It focuses a little gritty from time to time, but the rest of the lens is in great shape mechanically. Front element has a few scratches on it, but nothing that affects performance.

Thanks Ronny, Scott, Georg, Laura, Peter (S.A.) and Jeff for the kind words.

Leighton, loved the cat portrait and the amazing "ray of light" flower;

Peter (S.A.) beautiful and "dramatic" sunset;

Rafael, very nice sets with the 50/2 S;

Philippe, spetacular "pine + castle" shot;

Mihai, have a very nice operation;

Ray, loved the D600+ 16/3.5 set and the owl captures too;

Ronny, great dog shots with the 180/2.8, as usual;

Georg, amazing spider web + bokeh playing;

Bill, loved the evocative wren shot;

Jeff, great "sea dogs" set, liked the most the first one;

Ron, nice details in the flower at 100% crop with the mighty 200-400;

James, nice "lens porn"; your copies are so pristine;

Peter B, liked your "IR converted" shot of the wall/house.

spotted a finger print left of the m/ft symbols

there's a reason I don't buy mint lenses - I drop my stuff too frequently! My 55mm made it through one week and now has more paint damage than what it collected over 40 years before my ownership...

All this interesting discussion and great shots with the 135/2.8 Q, and by coincidence this moornig I got a near pristine scalopped 135/3.5 Q.C by a good price (USD 50.00). The interesting is that the lens has a diffrent optical design (4/3) to my current 135/3.5ais (4/4).
If the performance is so good as the 200/4 QC vs. 200/4aisI will be satisfied.
Have to wait though at least 30 days to received it because of the cumbersome Brazilian post

I look forward to seeing the comparison shots. I love my older 2.8. Have to use the hood with it at all times though, it does not like stray light unless you are being artistic.

The nice thing is that the lens I bought came with the original hood and bubble case.
No problem, if Curtis allows I will post a "135mm (f/2 ais x f/3.5 ais x f/3.5 QC) battle" on here
