I LOVE your sense of humor Peter. A quick wit and wry view of the world about us makes a delicious combination. As I recall Peter you were a bit reluctant to embrace is venture when it began but I'm certainly glad you found a way to stay involved. I love your photos from South Africa but even more importantly you've made yourself in integral part of this troupe of vagabonds and continue add a great deal through your insight and humor.

And stacking images is a perfect way to spend a rainy day... Especially golf balls when we all know what you REALLY want to be doing is knocking them around the course. The sun will shine again...

I see your wife takes very good care of you Reagan. I don't for a moment believe you packed that lunch...

Of course, you're the photographer in the family and had gear to get together. Very nice photos. I take it the D600 is meeting your needs, but it is too bad you didn't have a 28 f/2.8 AI-s with you for this hike...

You've got to STOP selling lenses my friend...

I am perfectly happy with the 25-50 this week
and if I hadn't sold the 28 to Leighton he wouldn't be able to take such nice photos at that FL
Yes the lunch was a surprise I didn't even know she packed one
Usually she just carries the extra couple lens I bring But I sure was glad she brought lunch

A silly experiment. Since I had the TC-201 at hand with Nikki sitting on the table, I thought I'd marry the two and take another photo of the yellow flower through the window. At f/2.8 I was effectively shooting f/5.6 with the teleconverter. The combination worked quite well...

I think I'll take a 1.4 extender with me for my San Francisco jaunt just to give myself a bit of flexibility... that and an extension tube and both a wide lens, the 24 f/2.8 H.C. AI'd and the 55 f/1.2 S.C. AI'd. I'll be ready for just about any situation...

Forgive me... the sun just came out so I had to try another shot of the yellow flower with Nikki and the TC-201. This really works... 100% crop.

Curtis will remember he sent me on a difficult quest for a perfect 55mm 1.2 SC to match my 55mm 1.2 S and 55mm 1.2 AI. Bought one that had to go back, here is another candidate just purchased, we are hoping this is a keeper.

If I had to have only one lens it would be a 55 1.2.

I'm seeing them on E-Bay. In fact there is one listed at the moment in what is described as "mint condition" with a Buy it Now price of $275. I paid $237 for my copy almost two years ago. This looks like a great deal to me. This is not one of the cheap MF lenses.

Nikon 25-50 f/4 on E-Bay

The serial number indicates this is an AI-s version, though both AI and AI-s have the same optical design. This won't be around for a long time. It is too good a lens at too good a price. Good luck.

E-Bay Curtis, just had to have it, it was bid up to $390, not a bargain but a fair price in my opinion, if the condition is as it looks. Chances are good as it is a private seller, his placing it on a clean cloth to photograph is a positive sign............

K, AI or SC, their optics are the same, SC is prettier. S and NKJ are also excellent and have sweet full aperture rendition but one small notch less in performance. (IMHO)

Thanks. You're not the only one who likes the 55's better than the 50/1.2. But to my eye, I'm not sure I can tell the difference. Do you have any side-by-side examples?

Curtis - thank you for the kind words. I love this thread because it offers the opportunity for all of us to tease -

Reagan - about the girls

Monty - the company and Rocky and his bikes and ( peculiar!) diet

You and Ben - about NMFAS; and

Leighton - about his sheep (and love of snow )

but most important it is still a showcase for the magnificent Nikon legacy lenses and what can be done with them. It also allows us to realise that "old" technology need not be discarded - if the lenses are OK there is nothing too much wrong with the cameras.

Curtis, I'm no horticulturist but that looks like a "primitive" rose to me - yet another excellent shot
