16mm f3.5. I think it's an OK deal.

Peter from Knysna - your "South Atlantic Sunset" is wonderful! Lots of movement in the sky - shipping these waters must be dangerous if the weather doesn't cooperate.
Your car-shots are nicely done, this is especially true for the ones posted a while back (the slim and trim English sportscars and the Borgward).

Philippe, I know nothing about Onassis, but I really like your fine boat-shot: your work with the colors and lines (no pun intended) is pure joy to look at.

Rafael, love your "family-portrait"!

Chuong, thanks for bringing up the auction - John pointed me here to my copy of this fabulous lens, maybe the auctioned Nikkor will find it's future owner here too.

Curtis, beautiful work with the 50/1.4SC! I like the first flower-shot for it's straight-on composition and the second image for it's bokeh. Very nice B&W on your first set with this lens.

Peter from Madison - nice to see you're having fun with the fast 55!

Scott, I like your Letchworth-images a lot. The first two pictures are my personal favs for their composition. Love the depth on shot #2 - the light works great here.

I fell in love with the 55 f/1.2 after dismissing it for almost two years. I like everything about the lens. I have the version that follows yours but both have the knurled focusing rings and bulky body. It is such a pleasure to hold in my hand as I turn the focusing ring. And, of course, it is fast, which permits some remarkable work. I love your play with the slinky. Have fun Peter.

+1

imaginative shots with the 55 Peter.

glad to see it being featured on the thread again.

Curtis - love the fence shot

Leighton, is the new radial filter something like a customizable vignetting?

Some shots taken today at the local zoo. I've used the 180/2.8 ED on the Nikon 1 V1a lot, but the results are mixed at best. I'm just not fast enough with the focus-ring.

A ring-tailed lemur jumping out of my frame - 180/2.8ED at about f/4, Nikon V1

Addition to the camel-family: the light was too harsh, the blown-out parts bug me quite a bit
180/2.8 ED on the V1 too, aperture unrecorded (about f/4)

180/2.8 ED on the D3s this time, f/4, cropped quite a bit

high noon at the turtle-pond - 180/2.8ED at f/2.8 on the V1, 3 fused images from a single NEF to bring down the contrasts

There's quite an extensive and helpful discussion on that thread Georg linked to, including by a few of the usual culprits from here

You may want to test your D800 focus on some controlled subjects (a ruler for example or a focus chart), and rule out any defect. Have your images been handheld? Even a little movement could throw off your expected focus. The green dot has worked on all kinds of shots for me, close-in to tele, as long as there's contrast at the focus point, and I haven't had too much caffeine that day

georgms wrote:
There are some issues that might cause focus-errors: a too small or not contrasty enough target for the AF-system (read: the focus confirmation) is one of the more likely reasons.
You could also check if the lenses work 100% with the focus confirmation: "nail" focus with Live-View and check if the focus-confirmation shows focus as dead on (this should be done from a tripod).
Here is another thread about this stuff.
Hope this helps!

Georg, that middle zoo pic is terrific. The parent camel (llama?) seems to be laughing at something, and looks like the offspring is real curious about your camera

Scott that lens seems up to the task, though it is heavier than the faster 105 f/2.5. Of course, you'd need to add an extension tube if you wanted to do close with with that lens while the f/4 gives you you that capacity. Yet, you need an extension tube with that lens as well if you want to achieve 1:1 magnification. No matter, the lens you have is always the right one to use. You can leave it to Ben and me to build kits so large that lenses spend more time in the cabinet than on the camera...

Thank you Curtis. I debate which to carry, the 105 f2.5 or the f4 micro. The f2.5 is smaller and a stop faster (produces nice bokeh at 2.5) vs. the close up capability of the f4 micro. For a long time I carried the f2.5 but lately the f4 is making it into the bag. It is a tough choice.
