Major bummer on being so laid up this winter, Mark. I guess one good advantage to the patch right now is that you don't have to squint your left eye shut to shoot. Hopefully the eye injury isn't too severe. Lovely panoramas. Trying to figure out what I'm going to go shoot with this tonight, maybe get some shots of aircraft, before the storm hits tomorrow night.

Amen to that Scott. Not being able to ski this year has meant that winter has sure dragged. Today was the start of the second half of the rugby season and I planned o have some great shots with the 300mm f/4.5 but had a stupid accident which meant all day spent having my eye checked out by various specialists. Lucking my left eye so I can still use my right, but now have an eye patch and all the kids think I'm a pirate.

Thanks for everyone that likes the shots from Flumserburg, here's a panorama shot (One of my

An old friend stopped over this afternoon. Somehow he was given a camera bag with a bunch of gear. He passed it on to me. The only thing that caught my eye was a 50mm f/1.4 Nikon lens. Looks like it is an oldie, from http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html

50/1.4 S Auto NKJ LMIJ 5- 5 screws, wider focus ring, Ai kit 7 532011 532070 - 635350 103340 Jan 67 - 1968

It's not an Ai but it is in kinda nice shape. THe rear glass is filthy. THe front glass looks good. I don't see any internal mold or dust.

The most interesting things are the filter and the lens cap. The lens cap has metal "plungers" THe filter mas a METAL ring. I have never seen either... THe filter, other than being VERY dirty, looks ok.

I don't know what I'll do with it. Just thought I share my find.

I think if you have any of the TCs it is worth to experiment:

TC14B or mod TC14E = 420/4;
TC16A = 480/4.5;
mod TC17E = 510/4.8;
TC301 or mod TC20EIII = 600/5.6

Combined with your V1 you will get a truly heavy artillery

Laura the sharpest lens I have ever owned was the 300. Bought one at a pawn shop and it was beat all to living he**. Despite it's cosmetic shortcomings, a major blob of something in the middle of the 2nd element you could darn near cut glass with the photos it took. It came with a Tamron 1.4 and 2.0 and even with the 2.0 it still took decent shots. It was so damn ugly I just decided to get rid of it and have been sorry I did.

Very nice, Jose. Keep them coming. What an amazing place to be, especially with Vesuvius lurking in the distance it would be like being transported back in time. Looking forward to Herculaneum. I hear it's a more compact and better preserved site.

Thought I'd try my hand with some MF lenses at a BB game...

200mm f4.0 AI or 28 f2.8 AIS with D700

Turns out when you are not absolutely in the thick of the action it's not impossible to use MF with some prefocusing and follow focusing. Also, at that distance the DOF at f4 has some forgiveness, I mainly judged by eye since during action since I did not want to look away from the screen to check the green dot in the viewfinder.

Not as artistic as some of the recent posts from everyone here, but thought I'd share anyway. Something different.

I seem to be on a buying spree as I just bough Chuong's 20/3.5 and Don's 45/2.8 AI-P

Still missing that 500/4 AI-P, but that'll be a big decision to make and some glass will have to be sold for that to happen (and my wife equally treated in kind in some way)

I'm sure you haven't missed the pristine copy now on the Buy and Sell board... and yes, that is a real commitment, but for a stellar lens...

Thats a beautiful lens Laura. With your love of shooting airplanes love is always better. And if I'm not mistaken, the TC-201 will work with the lens as well. I've mounted it on the 300 f/4.5 AI-s ED-IF and it performed beautifully. Have fun!

I too lament the 9 lens limit - it would have been trivial to make it 50 or some huge number like that!
They probably just want us to buy new shiny AF lenses instead . . .

100 would be more like it, they should make a D800M, manual focus only, no AF modules or motors, replaceable screens, should accept F/F2 screens.

A downpayment on today's work with Nikki. As one would expect, at least part of the visit would involve San Francisco Bay, vistas of San Francisco and a fresh look at the Golden Gate bridge. That all happened today. Here is a panorama, four shots, hand held taken from the vista point on the northern edge of the bridge. I've never visited that location before. This is 1600 pixels wide but is a relatively small file so hopefully no one will experience too much pain...

This is where I live folks... I'm one lucky fellow.

Ron, I have the 35mm 2.0 ais and your non-ai is far prettier. The 28mm 3.5 is a great find in this shape.

Jose, the 'bullet' holes in Pompei's walls are most impressive, no wonder the Roman empire grew so large.

Jeff, is that San Jacinto at the end of the desert road? with Santa Rosa on the left? Love the perspective of the 180mm on this road.

Tony and Kevin (and Curtis), Crack addicts do not worry about money, neither should we.

Chuong, great house fisheye, let the horizon be creatively tilted regardless of Leighton's built in spirit bubble level.

Ray, great D600 shots

Tony, nice Nikki Corona images

Mark, great teleferico shot, I thought it tilted but then found the horizon at the top of the tram cars.

Curtis, good work with Nikki, love the bay, my second home

John, thanks for the 400mm comparisons

Great eye Ronny

Dean, great street eye

Ray, excellent use of the 200, 4.0
