Nice work everyone. I've got about 17 days of free time now, and hope to catch up on my shooting now. Took both the math and chemistry finals today, and the chemistry final was graded quickly and results posted. I guess my brain isn't as rusty as I thought it was... I got a 90 on it! My average for the class is 88.9, so close to an A I can smell it... My psych class average is 89.65, even closer to that elusive A...

Finally had some time to get back to the images from my recent trip.

Alabama Hills, CA - John Wayne's ghost roams among these eroded rocks

20mm f3.5 @f/16 1/60s ISO 100 on D600, tripod, polarizer

same place with the 105mm f2.5 @f5.6 1/500s ISO 100, two frame DOF stacked

5 frame pano stitch with the 105mm, again, same place, different direction (to the Inyo Mountains, Alabama Hills in the foreground), all frames f5.6 1/25s ISO100, polarizer, handheld

Congratulations Laura. We exercise our minds the same way we exercise our bodies, building capacity as we gradually extend ourselves. No doubt with results this good the first time around, you'll have a rewarding experience as you go more deeply into your studies. Well done! Enjoy your time off... come play with us...

Fine work Peter I'm especially fond of the panorama. I've very impressed if your description is accurate. Holding five shots with a 105mm lens at 1/25th of a second is beyond me. There would definitely be some camera shake in there. This is stunning!

One more flower shot before heading to bed... with the lens that appears now to be glued to my camera, the 200 f/4 Q.C. AI-d... again shot wide open. Rhododendron flowers in the shade on a very warm day... It hit 92 degree Fahrenheit today, which is close to what happens to be the AVERAGE high temperature in much of Florida for about six months each year. Brave souls living down there...

Curtis, nice work with the 200/4 QC! I like especially http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/929565/2831#11526454 this rose-shot.
No need to shoot with another of your fine lenses, as long as the venerable 200/4 fits your shooting style so well ;-)

Samy, thanks and congrats to your early 105/2.5P! The bokeh looks beautiful on your garden-shot!

Scott, thank you! Sorry, I'll pass on the 800/5.6 you've spotted ;-)

Ray from Ohio - I'm glad you like the fountain-shot. Your kinda minimalistic spring colors are a nice find - I like "simple" (in the best sense) images.

Ray from Florida - your fine blossoms-shot is a good reminder to try that 300/4.5 IF-ED finally at shorter distances.

Laura, congrats Time to shoot some rolls of film now to get something practical out of the chemistry-lessons?

Peter, as usual very nice mountain-images. I really like the first shot, love the framing including the shadows a lot.

Another shot from the archive, this one was taken 2009 during holidays in Sweden. It was a MF-lenses only vacation, for the D700 I just had a 20/3.5, a 28/2, the 50/1.2 and one of Nikki's sisters with me and didn't feel handicapped by the lens-selection.

A truly wet soggy day for Graduation but he made.
Mom wanted more outside Photos but it was not to happen
Bill Clinton gave a rambling speech took his money and was gone within 3 minutes of finishing
As he left the stage 8 secret service men surrounded him and they were surrounded by uniforms
Wonder what that cost the taxpayers and he still collects a check. Doesn't make sense to me
Anyway we made it through My 105 with a Tc14 and high iso

Thanks Georg. I konw what you mean. Seeing things and people from a different perspective is why I like photography (and why I'm not particulary interested in the technical matters)

like the second image the most - eye contact out of the masses makes it. Seriously high iso - I never tried my D600 above 6400, but it seems to work alright.

as for the tax payers funding the protection of their living ex presidents, I imagine you have a more darwinistic view of things than others

Been too busy with work to stay up to date, did see the comments about the 8mm, this lens is actually not heavy at all, I love owning it and it takes very sharp photos on the D800 but it is hard to use creatively, once in a while I get a really nice shot. Its real use are three shot 360 degree panoramas, which I don't care for

But forget about the 8mm, I am now a member of the most exclusive lens clique ever, a proud owner of a 200 mm 1:4 QC ai converted. Only Jose and Curtis share this privilege.

The lens I bought on ebay for $32 had a big defect with a spacer between the front elements whacked out of place, but its ai kit #50 was in perfect conditon so the lens became an organ donor.

Hate doing ai conversions, particularly on philips head screws as I always mess at least one up. This time it happened again, but I have learned to drill and ream the little buggers out, shame for the 28mm NC that was lost in the learning.

Here is my old lens with the donated ai kit, as is customary in these occassions the closest focal length relatives party up.

No post on any of these.

The next one is a test at f/4 with a crop.

The crop, I will leave the detailed testing to Jose, but I am very happy with this lens, it is light, focuses like silk and fits the hand so well. It also transitions from in focus to out of focus areas with much grace.
