Paul, amazing example of what the lens can do. I am thinking pretty hard about this lens now. What is a good price. I only see them going for $900 on ebay, is that a little high for that lens? I feel like I have seen them going for less in the past, maybe it is the FM effect! Darn this thread.
The BIN's are $900-ish usd - the last auction was a 1 owner near mint condition for $645 - there might be some interest from a few FM'er but it would be hard to get your money back much above $700 - 6 months from now.
I've seen the Contax 35-70 go from a common $450-500 up to $735 and now Ebay has been selling auctions below $350 in excellent condition.

I think that you guys are far to spoiled with prices :-)
+1
This thread and C/Y 35-70mm thread spoil the ebay price. Some ebay seller even refer to thread at here.
Haha, I am just being thrifty. I have a 2 year-old at home and new kid on the way this month. Those little suckers can really make money (and time) disappear.

I have KEH catalogs from the last two years and prices have held steady above $700 during that time. Considering the performance I'm getting on the 5DII, its smallish size, and the price increases for new Canon/Zeiss lenses, I don't see prices coming down anytime soon for the 100-300 zoom.
There is some fine work on these pages - congrats to all. I have been refraining from posting, hoping it would fade off into the distance of page 2 or beyond, but no.
I want one also in the near future, but now I see the price is what it is, and I agree with Anden reluctantly about that.
Doesn't it feel strange to use film era lenses, ancient in technological terms, on modern day wonder cams - and knowing there will never be a ZE 100-300mm? hah.
New lenses are not so much about pure optical technology. AF forced lens designs to change (the need for a small lens group to move rapidly). Price point/marketability also caused a major shift.
