Nice shots Derek. I especially like the one of your daughter in the car and the daisy. The bokeh is certainly funky wide open and close but I like it on that daisy shot. I found the one I had (I also has the 49mm last version) was a lot funkier for that type of shot (see shot below). Do you think the bokeh might be a little less funky on the A7?

P.S - I really like the second to the last one, but find the hexagon highlight distracting. You might consider cloning that out.

thanks!

i don't think the bokeh is any different for any of my rokkors on the a7 versus film. i think it's just the background and distance/light. my MD W with 55mm filter threads is also quite funky close up but seems to get quite smooth at mid distance. judging by the tree/bench shot the 49mm filter thread version doesn't smooth out that way. i'll have to do some direct comparing sometime soon.

regarding the hexagon, i was trying to create a series of flare hexagons in the shot but failed.

here's a few more f/2 bokeh samples from around the yard:

I went back and checked on my Rokkor 28 f/2 shots and it turns out mine was a MC (I had a late MD with 49mm filter threads 35 f/1.8 and I got them mixed up). On mine, like your MD W, the bokeh did smooth out at medium distances. Here are a couple of examples:

I think the chicks are quite cute too. One interesting observation is that there are two different sets of chicks (Two that look older and are about twice the size and two that are smaller). There are also two eggs still in the nest. It seems that they may lay multiple eggs throughout the summer. It will be interesting to see if the eggs still in the nest hatch, but the mother is clearly brooding them as if she expects them to hatch. The bigger set of chicks swim about five feet away from the nest now and the

Nice, good to know. I was wondering if they got on the mothers back like Mergansers do. Hope you get a shot of that happening.

yay, 2/28 party. I got mine ages ago, but there was some fungus inside it so I took it to the side with the intent to fix it later which I never did.
So when I packed my photobag this evening I saw it and decided to give it a chance and I am really positively surprised how much I like 28mm.

Phillip, love the rich dark tones in your last shot. So lush I can smell the moss and here the birds.

28mm is one of my favorite focal lengths, prefer it over 35mm.

Hi guys, I just acquired the D55NC hood for my Rokkor 58mm 1.2 lens and I was wondering what I can use as a lens or a hood cap. Obviously I don't want to unscrew the hood each time to put on a cap and I kinda want to have the front of the lens covered when not in use even though I have a filter on. If anyone knows what I can use let me know. Thanks in advance! (I will post some pictures taken with the lens as soon as I get a chance )

I have a center pinch 67mm cap that works great. It should fit just right.

Thanks for the quick reply. I assume it will work as a hood cap or would it go like halfway inside the hood? Do you also have the D55NC hood? (not the more common D55NA, which is for the 1.4 lens)

I have the D55NA, which is the same diameter and just a little longer. I actually prefer it as it doesn't cause vignetting, but for either lens hood a 67mm lens cap will work as a hood cap.
