You guys are shaking me violently and reminding me how much I love my Rokkor that has been sitting on its shelf too long. Great work!!!

I particularly liked Sebboh's last set, Mann_p's bridge, Helimat's stroller shot, Paul's and Phillip's flowers and this last one from Sirfishalot.

Neat to see the quality of the 35-70 Phillip. I don't recall seeing shots from an old Minolta zoom before, and those are impressive contrast and still retain a lovely bokeh in spite of the aperture being comparatively slow and the lens being a zoom.

Cheers,
Jim

One more question.

What chip do I need to buy to use my rokkor 58mm f1.2 on a Canon dslr?
Is it the dandelion chip? Can I trust ebay or is there a more reputable seller to buy one from?
And does the chip come with a template and glue like the one on Leitax website?
Thanks.

don't know a thing about chipping canon adapters, doesn't seem worth the trouble.

58/1.2 at f/8 (probably):

Great scenic!

That's the old (or new) bath house, right?

Sebboh, any AC72 action shots?

dandelion or tagotech on ebay, both have placement templates.

sadly, i didn't get a chance to see any races other than from an extreme distance as i drove over hills or bridges.

that is the cliff house (restaurant). i don't believe it there are any baths that still exist there. the old sutro baths lie directly behind the cliff house (in the posted picture). there isn't much structure from them still standing. here's a pic i took of them a while ago with the rokkor 17/4 (i've probably posted this earlier in the thread):

they did recently redo some of the viewing areas/bathrooms/landscaping/etc in that park.

edit: that's a shot on film btw, tmax 400 to be specific.

i haven't spent much time with it, but i quite like what i've seen. very similar to the MC PG 50/1.4 in rendering.

i don't think it is as sharp wide open as the rokinon 85/1.4, nor as smooth in bokeh, but i like it's color better and it has mostly likable bokeh. i'm not ready to give a verdict yet for landscape use, but it is certainly competent in that regard.

Sebboh:

Thank you. Perhaps I should just settle with my OM 85/2 and Samyang 85/1.4 then..

if it were me i'd replace the olympus with a c/y 85/2.8. i never could get on with the olympus for portraits or for landscape, it is like a quarter the size/weight of the rokkor though. i'm still getting to know the rokkor, but it is definitely much prettier drawing than the olympus (imho of course).

My MC Rokkor 85/1.7 comments are much the same as sebboh's.Similar to MC PG 50/1.4 in rendering style, not so sharp wo with visible CA,but very nice colour, sharpness and oof blurr overall.

With the NEX5N:

If you feel itching go for it.

I would recommend to try a humble but very good 100/2.5 MC/MD Rokkor as well.MC 6/5 is smilar to 85/1.7,whereas MC and MD 5/5 are just like MD Rokkor 50/1.4 55mm.

Tis is late MC with revised 5/5 optics and 1m mfd/NEX5N

when comparing my MD 100/2.5 with my MC 5/5 100/2.5 i couldn't find much of a difference and sold the MD one because of the MC's nicer handling.

had a little time to try to get to know the mc 85/1.7 today and also compare it directly to the samyang 85/1.4. my big conclusions are (at least for aps-c):
1) the samyang is sharper and contrastier for landscape across the frame till f/11 where it's a wash
2) the rokkor has better CA control and is less susceptible to purple fringing
3) the samyang has smoother, more controlled bokeh and a more rapid transition from in focus to out of focus (rokkor has more SA/glow)
4) rokkor is smaller, has better build, and better ergonomics
5) the rokkor has more pleasing color (this is probably subjective)

over all i definitely prefer rokkor for portraits unless there is a particularly troublesome background that i want to avoid funky bokeh on. the slower focus transition (even with the rokkor at f/1.7 and samyang at f/2) just makes faces look better. the samyang has a more "modern" (well corrected) look. for landscape the samyang is the obvious winner unless there are a lot of bright whites in which case the rokkor would provide a more pleasing image. honestly, i wouldn't pick either of them for landscape though they can certainly do it just fine.

anyway, a few picks with the rokkor. all are wide open, the bird is 50% crop on the nex-5n and the last shot is a 9 image stitch:
