Clouds rock!! Yah, need to sort out finances, then I can go out...
I feel another trip to Sweden is coming up shortly...biggest question is that if I really want to return this time around.. We will see anyway...
Btw, first shot got some halo around pedestrian crossing (bottom)...I notice most of my lenses produce that when I am shooting in Japan...hmm...

Really fantastic images here. From what I understand the 58/1.2 is the legendary one although the 50/1.4 images look very interesting as well. Can the 58/1.2 be adapted to EOS mount to reach infinity - without shaving the mirror? If not, what about the 50/1.4 or the 50/1.2?
I did not have to shave my mirror on my 5D and 50 f1.4, but the conversion needs to be done with extreme precision

I believe the 58/1.2 can reach infinity when you shave the rear element retaining ring.
In direct comparisons the 50/1.2 has been shown to have less smooth bokeh than the 58.

Yeah, massive halos! This is after I tried to clean it up a little.
I was kinda wondering if this was the result of swapping the front element from a slightly different lens design. <shrug>
Probably just strong sunlight. I noticed that in direct sunlight I can't shoot my 58/1.2 wide open at ISO100 as shutter goes to 1/8000 on my 20D and still overexposes by 2 stops!
Yeah, the sun was BEATING down at the time. Just before taking that shot I had to get off my bike and use the gas station hose on my head and shoulders.
I think Yokohama is a degree or two hotter than Nagoya on average - just going from memory. But yeah, so far it's not too bad. Just a few hours from 10am to 2pm is killer. The past nine years in a row have been consecutively cooler than the last as followed the world trend but this year solar activity picked up a bunch - so this year should be the first of nine (ten?) that is hotter than the last.
The EXIF says: Image Digitized: 2010:08:06 12:20:38, which is like high noon, hottest and brightest. So you're probably right about the flare thing.
Weird, I thought sea side would be cooler, as opposed to the valley surrounded by mountains..hmm..
Ask your gf to take you to Sangane...I am sure you will have a blast there...can go for a swim around Hazugun also...and snap some crazy shots. Lots of hawks around there..
Consider yourselves lucky, I'm going to the middle of Kyushu, then to Yakushima. The heat in Kyushu is off the chart. Not sure about Yakushima, but since it is quite a bit further south... I know it rains nearly every day there and it is "mushi-atsui" (humid in Kuma dialect).
Sounds like you are going to a rain forest mate.. Kyushu is quite hot indeed.
Quite a contrast to Canada...
Every summer, just before the rainy season I think "Japanese summer is actually not that bad..."...then I realise that the hottest part is yet to come...oooomph!!
I thought 07, 08, and 09 were actually pleasant with only a few days that I thought were "too hot". 05, and 06 were hot tho! Too hot too much of the time. This year is not so bad so far. It's just the still mornings that getcha. Everyday from about 2pm till nightfall the pressure systems equalize and we get a nice comfortable breeze that makes it bearable - and on most days actually pleasant.
"HA!" is what I got to say about the "comfortable breeze"...
worst are the nights without any form of air flow...thanks god for 2 spanking new air conditioning units...
But very true...mornings are the bitch...
