I am not a big fan of parents posting their "cute" children's pictures on here but you have captured something really special that I don't see very often and that is artistic - rather than just a boring family snap....

I think you just insulted me and quite a few forum members

of course in Idaho the term "art" is more loosely defined

(since everyone is armed, the critics tend to give the benefit of the doubt to the image maker....)

Really sorry if you feel that I insulted you or any other forum members. My comment was meant to be seen in the context of Katie's image which in my view is exceptional.

I do not expect everyone to like my cityscapes or architecture images and think that I am entitled to have my view on the artistic or technical merits of posting repetitive family snaps.

I also believe that certain type of images, particularly of very young children that can not consent to having their image published to the entire world and subsequently remain on the internet for decades to come, should remain private.

Privacy and respect rather than artistic reasons is why I choose not to publish any images of my immediate family despite how proud I may feel about them or the image I have taken.

hk_mtbr, really like the 1st shot!

Peter, beautiful!

Manoj, lovely atmosphere in your shots. Very nice!

Nico, strong graphic compositions, love them all!

Phil, nice car but needs some body work

Gary, outstanding set. The 1st and last are my favourites!

Charles, great shot of the violonist. Framing and moment are perfect!

Charlie, your ski shots are getting better and better. I like all the images in the last set.

Nico, each is entitled to their own views, but I personally dislike the paranoia of posting photos of children. This is really hurting photography. Every time I take shot of a kid, I am afraid to be looked at as a pervert, and I'm sure many people do. I really love your work, and that is what's most important

This is a friendly forum, and we have always had a vast array of subjects and styles. Personally I love all the pictures here that span over almost 4 years. There are many very talented photographers here, that share some of their best work, and their more personal moments. This I feel makes the forum unique and special Nico, I also really love your style and array of images.

Not to rush to defend Nico, but as he was commenting on my images, I feel that I understand what he is saying - and it is definitely not an insult to anyone else. Most (and I mean most people in the photographic world, not just on this thread) like to shoot portraits showing how gorgeous their kids are, and while they are wonderful, I agree (with Nico) that sometimes it gets a bit repetitive. I am more of a Sally Mann type shooter when it comes to my kids (minus the nudes) and don't aim to catch a single bit of portrait in my shots. They are ALL emotion to me (and light/tones). I don't know if you've noticed, but my child is almost always wearing the same outfit in my series with him - which started as a coincidence since we are at a private school with uniforms, and that's just how he looks everyday; but has become something I'm aware of. The "series" I am shooting of him is way more than a "look at my cute kid" but has become a "might look the same - same clothes and town - but he is NEVER the same". Wild imagination, energy, etc...

So, honestly, I don't think he meant anything other than maybe "these are different" about my images. I personally LOVE seeing kids - but I am a Mom, remember. Luckily (since I have ovaries) I have never felt the "pervert" thing you guys face when shooting kids or roaming the playground. That would make what I do VERY hard. I feel for you guys!

Hope that makes sense and I didn't just dig a bigger hole for Nico - or a new one for myself.

Katie your images of your kids are more than a lot of peoples snap shots of their kids for sure....

And no hole dug in my opinion.

uhoh very nice love your art, second one for me, somewhat shadow play

Edwards very nice love the color pop here, how are you liking your M? Compared to your M9 in terms of color and rendering? I def. prefer my M9 over the M. Cute kid in the last shot very nice

Alright people, which do you prefer? Color or B and W below? I really fight to shoot color for some reason, I def. feel more comfortable shooting B and W, don't know if some of you have the same struggle

Phil

Phil - color for fort for this one (for obviously the red), but usually I always prefer black and white. I face your same same dilemma of thinking should at least try for some color every now and then.

Gary - oddly enough I also like your shots in color!!!

I'm voting color in both cases.

Gary, I love the green color of the water and subtle colors of the rocks and trees against the water.
Phil, the red ball and the color reflections in the metal makes me prefer the color version even if the reflection in the ball contains more details in the b&w version.

Katie, cool photos of your kid.
Peter, very nice forrest shot
Nico, great graphical content in your photos
Phil, great work with the Monochrom
Charles, great photo of the violinist. I see the wineglass is full again
Gary, great work with the 21 SEM
Edward, excellent work with the 85 Sonnar! Are you using an EVF now that your shooting with the M?

Thanks for comments and likes also!

I am not going to enter the discussion about photos of kids but I just want to say I love the diversity and quality of the photos posted in this thread.

Ed, colours are looking nice . Its generally a tad warmer than what I remember from your M9 sets but they look great. Phil I prefer the colour image.

Just for fun:
