Nice Cal.

Here is another example of what the 24 Elmar ASP can do.

Thanks Joakim and Cal

Is it light and small as they say? Do your wish you had something faster at times? Or pretty content with the speed?

Adrian, wonderful shot!
uhoh, very cool shots!
Ash, beautiful pastel series! Love the pastel colors, as it seems so easy to saturate colors now.
Phil, wonderful work!!! Just love the last image. If you erring the 24 Elmar, I would maybe for a similar price try the 21 SEM. This lens is amazing, but does not work on the A7r.

It's a nice size and weight...smaller than the ZM25 I owned, but about the same weight. Never needed something faster, and the lens is excellent wide open, so it's probably not going to be an issue for me.

Love those Elmar shots, how do you like it compared to the ZM? Do you find the colours more pleasing?

I've just bought an M8 thanks to Gary's luscious picture its going to be another black body, can't wait till it gets here .

I've nothing bad to say about the ZM25...it's a great lens as well; just look at Gary's shots. There is a difference in the colours, and I think I slightly prefer the Elmar, it's more consistent with other Leica lenses.

Phil - you are on a roll with the MM! Nice, subtle PP to your B&W pics. I love the crop on that 28cron shot.
Adrian - nice capture!
Ash - nice compositions and it's great to see more from you again.
Joakim - very nice - I quite like the low light shot's with M9. Also, the lighting on your last shot is superb.
Cal - that 24Elmar is looking really good! Wanna trade straight across for a ZM25? The scenery there looks much like Calgary this time of year.
Rocky - sorry - and congratulations! I wish I still had my M8 as a second body...

Question all,

Having a 28 now, do you think a 24 is too close similarly? whereas the 21 might be a better choice? I know some people have a set of lens with the 3 preferred focals (i.e. 28, 50, 90 or 21, 35, 90 etc…..)

I am aware the 28 and 24 are different focal lengths and there is a difference esp. for wide angles, but trying to make a choice here, so any advice would help

Thanks all for your past advice and thanks Charles for recommending the 21 SEM , your making me think to much

Phil

24 and 28 mm are probably to close but that kind of logic doesn't seem to apply to my buying decisions

Even if the 24 Elmar is a little slow I think it is worth it with the small size you get instead and I assume also IQ to some extent.
Another advantage for me is that it has the standard 46mm filter size. This was really a big plus for me on the trip where my previous photo was taken, I had a bunch of lenses from 24 to 90 mm that all took the same filter size.

I have the same "problem". Having a 18 SEM and 28 cron and still having a 24mm finder from the 18mm on the M8 (18mm x 1,33) I to had the idea adding a 24mm.

The reason for me not to buy one yet is that I find 24mm to be to similar to 28mm. As I have 28mm, 35mm and 50mm now and thinking of selling the 35mm because they are all very close together. I don't see the point in adding a 24mm at this moment.

Further the 24 elmar (no intrest in 24 lux) is quite expensive for a lens which won't have that much use.

The cheaper 25mm ZM biogon is, for what I heard, more a 26mm lens and so very close to the 28mm focal length.

A plus for adding a 24mm. The elmar is quite a different lens than the 28 cron. The cron isn't perfect with its vignetting and busy bokeh but thats (imo) what makes it a very interesting lens.
The 24 elmar is almost as good as it gets. Great sharpness across the frame, almost no distortion, almost no vignetting ect.

That makes it a good addition to the 28 cron (I thought you had the cron?)

The 24 elmarit I think is more similar to the 28 cron (and 21 elmarit) and might not be that good an addition. The 21 elmarit might be a better choise instead.

So, no real awnser from me as I can't even decide for myself

Phil, great shot! Strong composition
Gary, stunning images.
Phil, I would definitely say the 24 is too close the 28. Unless the 28 Cron, you really like the rendering. Bit like having 4 different 50's for all different styles of shots. Having the 21 SEM, I now jump straight to the 50 now, sometimes use the 35 Lux. Trying to simplify my lenses

I also agree that 24mm would be too similar to a 28mm. I think adding a 21mm to your kit would be a more "versatile" option.

Here's one from a while ago with the 21SEM. I'm planning to use this regularly on the M8 as a 28mm.

Thanks for the input guys!

I had the CV 21 ultron w/vf and did not like the focal length, never really was not that excited for my style of shooting, it sat in my closet for 2 months before I got rid of it. Maybe so, also I just never took the advantage of it, will have to re-think on the 21 or just take one out and force myself to use that lens only for the day.

I am really leaning towards the 24 3.8 elmar asph for it's great sharpness WO, contrast, and compact size, and lens filter size to accomadate many of my ND and colored filters I have now. Also with the very good high iso of the M and MM, I could use indoors in decent light, not candle light

Gary that 2nd shot is incredible, I bet it sounds amazing to be there!

Leon those colours are amazing with thw M8! Thats the reason why I love leica colors, thanks for sharing it, out of all the M's I have/had, the M8 creates the best preffered color tones for me, then the M9, after that the M

Thanks guys again

Phil

.. .hard to apply "logic" to gear/hobby purchases but luckily lenses seem to hold their value especially if bought used, so Phil you might as well buy both 21SEM and 24Elmar and try them out.

Phil, there might be days where you want a 24, 35 and 50/75/90 as your 3 lens kit and other days where 21, 28 and 50/75 might be better

By the way, excellent shots from everyone, hard to catch up and apologize for not commenting individually.
