Edward & Ron - nice B&W sets! Edward - thanks for trying all these different films so I can easily compare. RPX looks to be quite good and definitely a bit more mellow compared to Tri-X. The samples I have seen seem to have a lot of grey tones. Nice film and another I should give a go....

Thank you Gary! Glad to be of service!

The RPX is a true Agfa film that is manufactured at the old Agfa-Gevaert factory in Belgium, unlike the current Agfa APX, which is manufactured by Kentmere. I have several rolls of TX400 and Tmax400 that I'm going to try next but so far the RPX is my favorite b/w film.

Thanks. Do you happen to know what developer the lab uses?

For us film nerds. Iím using a Nikon Coolscan 4000 connected to an equally old PowerBook G4 so I can run the Nikon Scan software which I very much prefer for its simplicity compared to Vuescan. I also use the SA-30 adapter (which took me a while to track down) so I can scan the entire roll in one pass. Itís not a fast process but it is automated which I like.

As to film stocks, for B&W I always come back to Tri-X or HP5. I find Tri-X to be a bit sharper and I like to overexpose it at 200 and process at box speed, gives me the tones I like. I still would like to experiment more with Ilford Delta 100 as I was impressed with the incredible detail of that film.

As a side note, Iím getting married this weekend and headed up to Portland for a week with my M-A and the 35 Distagon so I chose to bring Portra 400 and a couple rolls of Cinestill 800T for shooting at night. Iíll finally have some work to share with you all .

Weíre going to do a proper honeymoon next year, likely in the summer and quite possibly in Scandanavia so I have that to look forward to also (photographically speaking).

Congratulations Abram! Wish you all the best for this new chapter of your life.

Looking forward to seeing your photos with Portra and Cinestill!

By the way, you can run Nikon Scan on newer OS as long as you don't download the drivers (it will ask you during installation). I use the driver from Vuescan or silverfast, not sure which one my scanner picked

Great B&W set Edward!
Remembering my time sitting on the floor there in that temple soaking it all in, and learning the proper way to sit in front of buddha from my guide. I also remember shooting that last stupa at dusk/night with the moon above it.Did you eat the local dish of catfish amok, cooked and served in a banana leaf. So good!

Thank you Wayne I'm glad that you had such nice experiences in Laos. That temple in particular was quite a charming place. Unfortunately neither me nor my wife liked the local food. It's too similar to Thai food but the taste isn't as good. Everything else was fantastic though

Yes, I can imagine that there are more places in Bangkok to get good food. Sounds like you had a nice trip too, but would you ever go back again?

We did have a nice time there, and it's the perfect place to spend a calm quiet weekend surrounded by ancient history. I will certainly be back.

I'm thinking strongly about getting the Zeiss 35 C-Biogon to pair with the 35 Distagon for daylight shooting (as it's perpetually bright here in California). I'm also thinking of more or less "committing" to 35mm on my M-A and focusing on 28/50 for the M240.

Naturally everything is interchangeable but I was thinking it might be nice to focus on one focal length for film for a bit.
