Leica M make the best street camera and most enjoyable camera to use.

I have to say reliability is not its strength and is not one of reliable digital cameras out there (definitely the worst I ever used ) My 100cron S just lose its AF and wait me send it to Leica SF. My 50mm Summilux bought brand new, but never perform at this good until I send it to DAG. It gave me lots of focus headache.

Like I said so far they( my Leica Ms) have been far more reliable than any of my digital Canons were. Do I believe that they are perfect or not going to break down at some point? No way. I wish they could come up with a totally none electronic digital camera that is entirely mechanical. A digital M3 say. No battery needed but that is not a reality.

I do agree about CPS especially having one here in the Chicago suburbs. When I did have issues, loaners would be waiting when I dropped off the cameras or lenses and the repairs were usually only a few days. I do really miss that. I have heard some rumblings that Leica is kicking around the idea of a CPS like program. Anything to shorten their repair times would be great. I wish that DAG repaired digital Leica's. They fixed a 24 2.8 Elmarit I have and it came back like new.

I would say Leica has a higher percentage of issues than other manufacturers.

In my own experience, chronologically:

M6: no problems.
M9: sensor bubbles, lock ups, SD cards damaged by camera.
M240: Loose bottom plate, lock ups.
M262: Loose LCD glass with dust accumulating underneath.
M7: both bodies have DX/ISO dial problems. One body is in repair for shutter issues.

So 5 out of 6 bodies do/did have issues.

I've been fortunate in that my M bodies haven't had major issues (just little hiccups that I've been able to fix myself mostly) but the majority of the Leica M lenses I've owned have had issues. This is ultimately what has now driven me away from their glass, almost every lens I've bought (newer generation or old) has either had focus problems or has literally fallen to pieces. With how expensive they are I found this quite disheartening to say the least.

Fortunately we are spoiled for choice and I now choose to use Zeiss ZM lenses instead because they're considerably less expensive and I like their optical signature.

Wow Edward you got such nice skin tones with Ektar! I struggled with it the times I used it but I really would love to try some again.

I agree Edward, the last two of your wife have looked great. I see the difference in Kodak (Caucasian optimized - more yellow) vs. Fuji skin tones (Asian optimized - more magenta), but both are good here. I also really liked the rendering of the tight vertical of the waiter with the 35/1.4. This is how I would want my film images to look.

Abram, I agree about the Leica lenses. Every single one I own/owned has eventually started to loosen up and wobble to a certain degree. Worst has been my silver 50 Lux ASPH, which is closing in on needing to go back for tightening and to reset proper infinity focus (it focuses a hair past). I think this is the tradeoff of the small, dense mechanical design - it eventually needs a tune up, repeatedly.

Michael, thanks. I think the turnaround time with DAG also makes me a bit nervous, and the range of forum user experiences from quick to waiting a long time; great communication or no communication. Maybe for something 'simple' like RF or lens tune up he would be faster... I just feel there is never a good time when I want to be without the camera. Maybe just need to do it and fall back to the M9 and re-experience its pristine new sensor.

Sorry for the image dump - making up for not posting a while.

An overview of about 4 hours wandering around the downtown Detroit area prior to a football game a few weeks ago. Glad I arrived early to explore. I think I have found a new favourite urban destination... Love the contrast of old and decay with newer and more modern. Also interesting to note I saw a sign advertising condos starting at $400K.... in Detroit?? Talk about gentrification.

M240 and 50 Lux ASPH, 90ME, CV35/1.7M x3, 50, 35, 50 x2, 90 x2, 50.

Very nice set Ron! I would love to roam around there as well. I'm trying to make it out to NYC this fall for some street shooting but doesn't look like I will have time.

Thanks Abram. I think film in general has been unfairly judged based on the results coming from the current scanners available and the scanning software. Until I got my Nikon scanner last week, I was getting horrible skin tones with ektar. Now all I needed is warm it up +10 in ACR.

Amazing colors and compositions, Ron!

Thank you for your comments, and you totally got it about the Kodak to Fuji color optimization.

As for Leica glass, I have been almost looked down at for using zm glass exclusively. But I have never regretted it, as I've never had any mechanical deterioration or failure on any of my current or previous lenses despite the zm being criticized for inferior build quality and wobble.

I like the composition and the low contrast treatment that brings out the rich monochrome tones, Zhangyue.

Thanks. It looks a tad overexposed though and I mistakenly had sharpening enabled during export... Which Nikon scanner did you buy? I heard the 5000ED is really good....

I think the exposure is perfect to my eyes. I got the V. The 5000 prices are crazy and the V does 98% of what the 5000 can do. The sad thing is that I used to have the 5000 back in 2007 and sold it for less than half of what people are asking today.
