Congratulations Allen! Wonderful write up with amazing photos. The selfie shot and homeless man really sticks with me. I hope this exposure gets you more well deserved recognition!

Do you guys ever find you "lose your vision" for a specific focal length? I've been finding of late that I just don't like what I'm producing with my 35mm, often preferring my compositions with my 28 or 50. I'm reluctant to sell any Leica glass because (as they say) you're probably going to regret it later, but what if 35mm is no longer for me?

I put it back in its box for a short while to see if I wind up missing it at all.
(it could also subconsciously be my own internal ploy to kickstart my savings for a Leica Q)

Over the years I find that I see at 35mm so when doing my personal work that is the only F/L i use.

I have other F/Ls for my commercial work but I still find that for a lot of it I use 35. If 35 isn't working for you and the way that you see and work I say make change and don't look back.

For many years on canon I relied heavily on a 35/85mm combo. I know the 35mm FL well and I've always enjoyed it, BUT what I learned to "see" on was 28/50mm as a pair, that has always been my "comfort zone" and what I always come back to.

Presently that's my favorite combo on my Leicas (28 Summicron and 50 Summilux or Elmar) but I have this nagging desire to keep trying to love 35mm again (all last year that was my primary lens in fact). I dunno, I mean it's just a lens but I also want to really hone in my vision as I just shoot for pleasure these days.

Abram, when you find a lens/camera that match the way you see and work, in my opinion and my experience, it is more than just a F/L. It is a tool that helps you create effectively. My 35 Lux FLE is my go to lens. If you have to try and get yourself to love a F/L instead of just going to it naturally because it truly captures what you see then maybe your vision is trying to tell you something.

Too true Allen, too true! I'm definitely drawn to the 28 Summicron even if I sometimes take it off my camera so I understand your meaning.

When I lose my vision from a specific FL, I find that by putting that FL away for a while helps in creating a need to explore with it again later. I'll end up "moving" to either a much longer or shorter FL to mix things up again. It is usually then when I tell myself if only i had that shorter/longer lens could I make this image work.

First from 90mm Summarit, remaining from 28mm Elmarit

The weird thing is I really like 35mm for video, but for stills, it's 24 or 28mm for me. Not sure why...

That's a good idea... Leica SL Sensor is only 24Mp but great although not the best one in high Isos... I have sold my two EOS 6D for one Pentax K-1 to fit with Leica-R lenses. And I discover Tilt screen and Peakink focus. It's funny, I have the feeling to take photos with a Rolleiflex when I use it.. The sensor, its processing and shake reduction are great on that camera. Two days ago, I changed Leica-R Mount on the Summicron-R 35/2 for Leitax and the pictures are great even in the angles after f:2.8...

The only people who do this SL sensor performance commentary are those that don't own one. No one I've ever heard about (except for one very vocal one) who owns an SL complains about the capabilities of the SL sensor.

Hi Gordon,
do not feel upset because I say Leica SL is less good in high Iso than other sensors. I tried SL and loved it even with "only" 24Mp and for his marvelous EVF. The real thing is that I cannot afford it. And I looked for a better price/quality ratio.. I chose the Pentax K-1 for better NR process, better Sony Sensor process (over Sony A7R, D810), SR included, Tilt screen ans so on...
I never said Leica SL is bad, but unaffordable for me... Nevertheless, I think Pentax K-1 is an excellent DSLR alternative to use my Leica-R lenses..
Best regards.
