When you are out shooting your Leica do you like Vincent from the Color of Money when he has the balabuska in his hand? Or is that just me?

Joakim - the Rokkor has a nice quality in these. The Canon looks pretty modern, other than the last one where you see some of its character in the background. I guess you had it stopped down somewhat for most of those?

I definitely enjoy shooting with the M. Sometimes I have a lot of fun. Or I get in a shooting groove that feels really good. Like suddenly I'm seeing more/everything and it's all coming together in the photos.

The closest I've come to doing nunchuk/nunchaku moves with an M is immediately after it locks up and the thought to smash it against the wall, ground, etc. flashes through my mind. So far I've never come remotely close to doing it since it would be a bad idea when surrounded by clients at an event/wedding and I'd still need to keep shooting the rest of the day... As I've posted before, shooting Leica can be somewhat masochistic. When things are good, it's great. When not... yet I keep coming back. So far the good far outweighs the moments of frustration.

I like the opening images of your set. Your son also enjoys photography? Good to see him using a camera other than a smartphone or tablet.

Ron, I have enjoyed your architectural shots, and I have been meaning to tell you I ran across your very comprehensive and exquisitely-written TechTalk article on the Fast M-series 21mm lenses. After reading your comments, and after my frustrations with using the ZM15 1.8, I returned it and picked up an 18mm SEM.

So far, my results with the SEM have been much more to my liking than those from the ZM15. Colors seem more vibrant, and overall sharpness is better, with the SEM. More importantly, the magenta color shift around the edges of shots taken with the ZM have completely disappeared with the SEM. In most cases after importing into Lightroom I find that few, if any, adjustments are needed. I think the 18SEM, though not as wide as I might have liked, is going to be a keeper.

Here are three taken this morning with the SEM on the M240:

Thanks for the kind comments Robert! Glad you found the article helpful. Color does look very good in those.

Something to consider if you're occasionally missing 15mm is the new Voigtlander 15/4.5. At ~$750 it's almost an 'add-on' buy relative to the ZM15 and Leica glass. Something to keep around for the few times you might need it. That said, you might find the 12/5.6 more useful if you're a super ultra wide angle fan. However the 12/5.6 will edge color shift a bit, though probably not quite as much as the ZM15. My experience with it is color shift on the M240 is mostly along one edge. Considering the new 15/4.5 I wonder if there will be an optically revised version of the 12/5.6 too.

I recently got the new 15/4.5 and still have the previous version too, so that should be a future blog test (I should do more of those, just they're really time consuming and I currently feel quite overwhelmed with recent photos to edit and process). It's probably not as good as the ZM overall, but it's still very good over most of the frame stopped down a bit.

Hi Ron! Haha. The comparison to Vincent was a bit hyperbole! But yes, I completely agree with your view. I've been feeling really good about 'seeing' better with the M. Sounds corny, but it's true for me!

And I've introduced photography to my two oldest sons. My 10 year old has zero interest but my 7 year old seems to enjoy it. This was the first day with a digital camera and he had a BLAST. Most excited I've seen him in a long time.

Chuck

Thank you for the comments René!

Very peaceful atmosphere in your last set and very nice colors. Just curious if you're still shooting with the Zeiss 35 C Biogon. I think it really suited your visual style.

At Grayton Beach this morning with the SEM18. Both with the M240; the second one converted to B&W in Lightroom.

Can anyone tell me why my uploaded photographs are being downsized to 850 pixels on the long side for display here, when on my computer they are 1500 pixels?

Thanks,
Robert
