So Mitch, do you speak Thai?...

Yes, which is a segue for the description of the photo below: these are two monks from Burma that are heading for a monastery in Chiang Rai Province. The one on the left is a Shan (“Thai Yai” in Thai) from Chiang Tung in the Shan State. The Shans are the largest minority in Burma and speak a Northern Thai dialect — and therefore can learn the standard language of Thailand easily: many of them pick it up by ear watching Thai television stations that they have access to in Chiang Tung. The word “Shan” stems from a Burmese mispronunciation of “Siam”, the way the Central Asian state of “Georgia” stems from an English mispronunciation of “Gruzia”, which is the name of that country in the Georgian language and in Slavic languages.

The monk on the right is a Burman and cannot speak Thai. He spoke to me with his limited English. I spoke with the Shan monk in Thai and he translated for the Burman monk in Burmese. It is interesting that, when I photographed them. after speaking with them for ten minutes, they turned to the camera with a serious expression, and then didn’t ask to see their picture on the LCD — in keeping with the Buddhist precept of not expressing desire that in this case would represent vanity.

Thanks Katie long drive though.

I do have a good bud in Dallas. We spent the holidays in Santa Fe and we were trying to talk him into coming out to see us there.

28 Cron and M9 rips. Well Ron also makes it look good on the 240, I have to say

I have my M9 in the cold often, it seems to thrive on it. One secret is to not turn it off but just let it sleep after shooting, then shut down later. Also never format card in camera. With these two rules mine never "locks up" anymore.

Mitch, what a great story, and a great image, and a great lens, and that 'holy moly' MM rendering! All tell a perfect story. You can tell, I really like this shot!

I'm a naughty boy....

I'd never even heard of these, 50/1.1 sonnar, 190grams, super easy adjustable calibration.

One came up for sale at RFF, asking 1400 (silver), so for fun I went to the actual sales site, and they are supposedly "available", at 1064USD.

I flinched.

As some might know I had used an C Sonnar 2 years ago on the M9, and sold it because I preferred the Planar. Well I bought another one on Tuesday. I didn't exploit it yet to its full potential, hopefully in the weekend, but here are 2 wideopen snapshots from this afternoon:

I just realized after many days of having MM now that there is no Aperture value at all. None of the photos have aperture values. Needless to say the lens are coded and show the aperture values with m240.

I shoot all manual and f/stops and shutter speeds are only important to me when I'm making the photograph not after. I can usually tell if I had opened up or stop down by looking at the photo so that info, after I make the photograph, is not important to me.

jfreak, what software are you using? Adobe should handle this properly but apparently Leica doesn't store the aperture value in the designated EXIF field so maybe not all software handles this correctly.

Thanks Joakim, you are absolutely right. The issue was the software. I am using CO and i just imported one raw in LR and band, it shows up. I am not gonna give up on CO though for this feature. Hope CO gets it in next update. Thanks. Vik

Well that is good to know since I have a license for C1 myself but haven't noticed that the aperture value was missing. I mostly use LR/PS but I try to work some with C1 as well in case Adobe moves in the wrong direction with their subscription model.

Thanks for the likes and comments! Even if I know that M9 is not a camera for bad weather I still want to use it if it is raining or snowing some because you can get some good photos when the weather is not so good and if one isn't to careless I don't think it is that much of problem,

There are quite a few of them for sale here in Japan, granted they are made here. I have personally never tried one, but I have been tempted. Used, they generally seem to run about 1100usd here at the moment.
