Gary and Michael very nice.
real work by unoh7, 135/3.4 APO f/5.6
Minor triumph for me here My target's in focus!
I am learning to quickly compensate for lenses which backfocus or front focus (all my "off" lenses seem to front focus)
Spoiler: it involves the dreaded chimping.
Basically, and this is prolly obvious to everyone but me, I shoot targets with RF close as I can get it, check focus on screen. Adjust, moving the split image, and check again. After 20 shots or so at various ranges, my brain starts to associate the appropriate "english", and my hit rates, while not perfect, are way better.
After some practice this is not hard to do at all: in fact the brain seems to find it amusing.
I now find it no problem to identify correct focus in the LCD. I magnify, of course. But it's painless, and despite some "complaints" to contrary, reliable.
I used the same technique at the play above with my 85/1.5 LTM which also has front focus. I established the range at the event with a few chimps and shot with high hit rates from then on
A chimp could do it!
