Any one has both? Your comments are welcome.

I got a 28mm f1.8 few years ago, and have not used it much due to the lack
of sharpness at f1.8. I am thinking to try 35mm f2. Should I expect better results?

Thanks.

My 35/2 is sharp and contrasty @ f/2. Don't know how it compares to the 28/1.8 though.

I made that transition a few years ago for the same reason as you, and the 35/2 delivered.

My 35/2 isn't a bad lens but it's buzzy, has a rather average bokeh and is too long for me as a standard on 1.6 crop. Otherwise it's great.

Odd as it may seem, I'm happier using my supposedly crappy Canon 28/2.8 lens as a 1.6 standard, nicer bokeh and sharp enough.

Another person who has owned both... and kept the 35/2 for my crop "normal" prime... aside from cosmetics and noise, the 35/2 is much better... but the 28 isn't bad... just not great.

I seriously don't know where people get these impressions. I absolutely LOVED my 28 1.8.

I still have and do love my 28 1.8. On my 20D its a great lens. I don't like the 28mm perspective on Full Frame so it never gets to play in that arena but it held up very nice when it was.

I also loved my 28 1.8 at apertures from 4.0. Actually I regret selling it. Only sharpness at wide apertures (what the OP asked for) does the 35 better.

Ummm... in case I wasn't clear, I got this "impression" from actually using both lenses for a couple years.

You say you absolutely LOVED your 28, how much have you shot the 35/2?

(Honestly, I didn't really "love" either lens, just like the results from the 35/2 better... and the FL workds better for me as well.

from f4 and smaller, the 28/2.8 is probably as good or better (the contrast was better than 1.8 anyway)... might as well save your money if you are shooting stopped down.

Just did a tripod/target test with a bunch of lenses to see what the difference on them is on my 5DII. Included a 28/1.8 and 35/2

Taped two targets up on the wall, one dead center and one right on a corner of the frame. Took shots with each, moving the tripod to get the corner target in the right place.

35/2 was ok in the corners wide open, sharpened up fairly quickly.

28/1.8 was sharper int he corners at 1.8 than the 35 was at f/2, and got incredibly sharp at 2.8 all the way across.

maybe I have a good 28/1.8 (or mediaocre 35/2). But between the two, I've always preferred the results from the 28/1.8

I had the 35/2 for about a month. After a few outings I got sick of the buzzy AF and got the 28 1.8.

This is partially what happened to me... then after comparing my actual images the 35/2 images always seemed to have more sparkle and clarity... so I ditched the 28. I never tried to compare corner sharpness... just my images in their entirity. Surprisingly, the "buzzy AF" didn't show up in my images...

Another vote in favor of the 28 1.8. Very happy with this lens @ F2.0 or higher on my 1.6 crop cameras (though the edges are admittedly [quite] soft at less than F2.8.) Not as enamoured with this lens on my 5DII - can't really explain why. As for the 35/2, the copy I had was a dog. Very soft and buzzy.
