Did you get that moonrise jhinkey? Or Mt. Ranier? Both looked incredible tonight, but I was trapped at the office with no camera :-)

I had the camera out on the tripod tonight, but I was trying to get an image of some of the jets taking off from SeaTac crossing the full moon. I wasn't successful in getting a jet to cross the moon though a few came close (usually I get at least one good shot).

Last weekend I was going to head down to Mt. Rainier to take some night shots of the mountain, hopefully with a line of lights on the side from the climbers, but I chickened out when the weather looked like it was going to be cloudy - but it cleared up and was perfect for what I wanted to do. Too bad I chickened out.

^^^ Thank you neighbor.
I was just looking at last couple of your images and wondering how would I love to have red, sky burning sunsets for a change. It happens once in a while, but way too rarely.

PS.
I really enjoy "MF Nikon" images on your website!

You are welcome neighbor to the North! We've been having some fantastic weather lately, but I've been too busy to get out for the most part. I do what I can though.

John, nice to see that the Apo-Telyt seems to work just fine for you!

Yes, it is very sharp, high in contrast on my D800 - things my venerable 200/4 AIS does not have. It's heavy and a bit bulky, so it likely won't go on any mountaineering expeditions any time soon - the 70-200/4 VR Nikkor is the likely candidate for that.

I wish Nikon would make a compact, lightweight outstanding 180 or 200mm f/4, but I won't hold my breath . . . .

Try gently lift and remove it then throw it into a boiling water for 45-60 seconds. Remove it quickly and allow it to slowly cool down. This should shrink the rubber ring and "re-elasticize" it.

I do this process once a year with my turnable/motor belts and it works like a charm.

PS.
Don't use any non-rubber specific chemicals as they just make crack and discolour it the ring.

Manu, I can't see EXIF of this shot. What was the f stop and ISO? Also, did you use tripod?
Lastly, was the focus set to infinity?

Lately, for *scape shots, I tend to use Elmarit-R 28 equally or even more than Zeiss 2.8/21. This little Leica-R used with ACR lens profiles produces great results.

Jack: f/8, ISO 560. Handheld. I set focus to the bottom third hoping it would be in the hyperfocal neighborhood

Yes I'm using the lens profiles in ACR and have also been consciously using camera standard instead of adobe standard

Xenon99; did the ring become loose suddenly, over time or you purchased it in this condition?
There are numbers of Leica repair shops that must have experience with it. I would suggest to contact them for advice or possibly spare part.
