Here are some pics from today with the Macro-Elmarit-R 60 on the Nex-7, using the Speedbooster. Some might be cross-posts from the Nex and alt flowers threads.

Thank you Manu for your kind comments.
Till this morning Vancouver had a record breaking hot, sunny summer days so I rarely felt like taking pictures. Hopefully upcoming weather change should allow me to contribute more to this thread.

Thanks Roni,
These images were taken late morning less than an hour after heavy rain and right before sun started breaking out again. This created really favorable lighting condition.

^^^ Jim, someone just mentioned on this forum that there're only 20 weeks till Christmas

Seriously, I remember about two years ago when I started reading this forum I had a hard time to decide which 35mm lens to pick up; Cron-R or Zeiss 2/35. I ended up getting both with idea that I will return the one I like less. Well, I am positive you will like them both equally as well.

I know I am not helping you here, but get Summicron-R 35 if you can and you will be laughing few years from now when most good Leica-R lenses will cost at least double.

That is how I have felt about 100mm lenses...and 50s: that they are so distinctive that it is worth collecting a few. I regret having sold my 50 cron and R6 a few years ago. I "need" to pick up another one and find a 35 cron too, it seems.

Last time, I took a similar shot, because I stayed in Prince Hotel just next to Tokyo tower.

Pics or that didn't happen
Joking. I am lucky to have rooftop access so I don't have to shoot through the glass, but this construction just in front threatens to kill the view..

Great shots, guys, keep them coming.

Thanks for your thoughts. My personal preference is to shoot 50mm cron, but I find I'm missing too many wider shots. I'd love to go wider, but 28mm at 2.8 is just not cutting it for me. I feel that a 35mm at 1.4 or 2 would allow me to get close to people while also giving me that extra field of view for parties and touring. Just that the canon glass is cheaper, so I was wondering if there's a reason for that when compared to leica glass. Thanks for your reply. Will have to think about this one

Hi, Roni, Somehow, I totally forget answer your question. I am using Type-S screen from Canon, which is supported by 6D. It is doing fine job and I feel it is crucial for Canon that focus confirmation usability is no way compare to Nikon body. Especially for f1.4 Glass.
35lux R is specialty lens. I doubt it worth prime above Canikon and Sigma for optics. It is for people enjoy manual focus and shooting experience with high build quality lens, It last more than we do, and keep its value better than plastic one with electronics inside, but don't expect wonder from it compare to others f1.4

Jim, About 35cron, I feel i will recommend 50cron higher than 35cron as the FC is kind of extreme and slow down performance is a lot unpredictable. for 35cron V1 M, I just turn to infinity or to desire focus plain and get cross frame sharpness, nothing to worry about. To get 35cron corner in sharp is a lot tricky, at this focal length, I don't have the luxury to have DOF cover all the frame and FC like 21-35mm at 21mm does. For me, it is a less concern as 80% of stuff I do is family pics. seldom i need sharp corner.

It certainly shining at many things, I love its relative smaller size and DOF rendering. I like the fact that it is extreme sharp lens at center even WO, I also like its focus transition at close distance, a merit almost all Leica R have. CA is well controlled as well. another leica's strong point general speaking.

So just prepare it is within your expectation.

I can assume this will be a thought after lens by videophile.

Since I am at 35cron. here are some from 6D.

So, Michael is preaching for Summicron-R 50, again.

Is Cron-R 50 a good start into alt/Leica-R?
Heck yes, and he is more than right about it!
For starters - everyone needs 50mm lens. Leitz used Summicron-R 50 with confidence as their kit lens for Leica-R camera systems; that in itself should make it a safe bet, even now days. Plus all the FM posts regarding Cron-R 50 compact size, weight, colour/sharpness performance should be more than convincing, not to mention its still fairly affordable price.

I am sure many will be skeptical about this 1970s old glass. Sharpness, bokeh, extreme corners performance, etc. may be the main concerns. Well, here is an example I just found. This image taken last year wasn't even a test shot; just a random hand held shot while scouting for a location. I was going to delete it till I viewed it at full size. Please judge for yourselves. I hope this will help some with your decision.

Seriously, it's amazing, and possibly the cheapest R lens that you can find online these days. The double-gauss configuration doesn't get much better than this. I'm not shooting in a studio, so for my purposes: colour, sharpness, perfect amount of bokeh and vignetting, this is the best kit lens. Stopping it down to 5.6 is pretty much perfect.

I keep thinking I need to switch to a 35 f/1.4 or f/2, but then I keep reading Cartier-Bresson's preferences for always having a single focal length, and that focal length being 50mm. Might just have to use my feet to get wider shots :P

Thanks, guys. I have a 100 APO and used to have a really nice 50 cron. I miss the 50 a lot but at the moment have too many 50s to justify another without unloading something. I have been shooting 35mm almost exclusively for a while and am contemplating selling off some 50s and bringing on a new 28 or 35.

Any comments on 35/2 vs 28/2.8? Not worried about the difference in stop, as night photography is not the point. Wasn't there some lore around the 28s and certain versions being great and others junk? I shoot 5d2, so only interested in ones that will work with FF.

Cheers,
Jim

I shoot the 28mm 2.8 v1. The v2 is known to be sharper corner-to-corner, but I find that the 28 v1 is actually quite sharp throughout the frame. I think a 35 f2 will just give you a bit smoother bokeh (aside from the extra light), but I like the wider-angle perspective of the 28 for my images.

Some of my shots with the 28 v1:

Summicron-R 35 may not have sharp extreme corners (see Alex's comment here) but once you frame around its imperfection than it won't matter.
