Dou you shoot your weddings with a 5D MkII?
I want to buy one, but I am worried about the slow AF, and particularly about the slow peripheral AF points. Did you have any AF trouble and missed shots because of the AF?
My primary body for weddings is a Mark III.

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

go to the search button at the top.

put in 5d and hit enter

feel free to browse the 100 other threads that asked the same exact question for a more in depth answer

to get you started, you'll find that probably half this board shoots with one

I already have good lenses. I just need an second body, which does focus well with not to much OOF pics. As a Mark III user, I am really spoiled with the excellent AF. I know, the 5D mk II is not comparable with the AF of the Mark III, but i ask myself, if it is capabele of shooting weddings in low church light.

As long as the wedding is not at a pole vault event don't worry about it. Nothing is finer than the low light capabilities.

Resale values are high, get a used one and dump it if it's not for you.

Frankly, the answer to this question is very subjective and I don't think you can find it here... you have to discover it for yourself.

I've seen weddings shot with crop cams and they don't look all that much different unless you're specifically looking for small DOF shots.

A Polaroid Insta-cam is a great second body cam. You can get instantaneous feedback.

this is silliness

the 5D2 would compliment your mark 3 nicely.

Forgive the humor here if you don't get it.

To answer your question, many photogs use 5D Mk IIs for weddings, with amazing results. There is a good chance you'll like the images from it so much that you'll start using your Mark III in a backup/second capacity.

Yes.

5D2 outer AF points suck. Especially in low light. Stick to the center AF point.

Did you have any AF trouble and missed shots because of the AF?

Not if I stick to the center AF point.

My primary body for weddings is a Mark III.

Mine was a 1Ds3. I like the 5D2 better for (low light) event work and weddings.

Why don't you just get a 1Ds3? Full frame AND the nice AF you are used to. My style is center AF point only with my 5D2 at weddings, then recompose, just depend on how you shoot.

You know, a lot of you will think this sounds dumb, but I actually have a 1Ds III and a 5D II, and recently I've started using the 5D II as the primary. Higher ISO options can be handy, and the screen is so much better on the back that it makes it way easier for me to make sure I nailed a shot. Sure, it's a little hard to focus during reception, and focusing on anything but the center point is useless, but it's more important to me that I nail the shot in-camera, which is harder for me to tell when that happens on the 1Ds III... (Yeah, yeah, histogram... whatever)
