I just picked up a 200mm f2.0 Super-Chub and I'm having a difficult time hand-holding it -- the design is so "compact" that I haven't found a way to balance it comfortably.

The weight is, of course, part of the problem but I've been doing OK with my 300mm f2.8 and I think it's actually a little heavier than the 200mm but it balances much, much better.

Any suggestions? There are times I just don't want to put it on a mono-pod.

Check out the Nikon pistol grip 2. Used on my 200 f2 and works well. Found about it when sports photographer Dave Black was using it. Also can be used on the 300 VR as well.

Great product, but in my case it would draw a little attention in a church at a wedding :-) "hey look at the guy with the bazooka over there..."

Try a lens plate. Gives you more to grip.
