p.1 #1 · How do you store your stuff?

New to the forums here and wanted to get some opinions on how you store your equipment(lenses and bodies) when not in use?

Do you store them in the original boxes if used relatively infrequently?

Any difference in storing in bags (Think Tank) vs ziploc to prevent condensation, mold, fungus?

How about those silica gels? Do they work?

Does a lens that gets older become more prone to condensation when living in humid environments?

Your thoughts and experiences are appreciated!

Regards,
Jon

All my gear sits at home in Pelican cases. The cases have the Pelican dessicant. The Pelicans all have the dividers versus the pick-n-pluck. Ginormous case for the Hensel Porty kit, a 1610 for the cameras and lenses, and a tiny Pelican that keeps the D5000 handy with lens attached.

I've gone the cheaper route. I bought a couple of plastic storage containers from Target - the kind that slide under your bed. They're probably 4ft x 1ft, my lenses, flashes, film bodies all go in there. Mostly the stuff I don't use.

I have chest of drawers devoted to my photo equipment and supplies. It has worked just fine for some years...

I'm using a 104lt. dry cabinet (Wonderful 108DD) with electronic humidity control. A very nice and reliable piece.

I store all of my lenses in airtight containers that I got from Bed Bath & Beyond. I use zorb-it to control the humidity in the case. I live in a very humid climate and had fungus in 2 of my lenses due to just storing them in the closet. Not making that mistake again.

Thats an impressive collection you have. I just hope you don't live in an earthquack zone. With all of those that are occurring around the world these days, anything seems possible.

You'll have to talk with Peter (PetKal) for tips on avoiding problems with earthquacks.

When earthquacks happen gotta have your camera/lens ready: Servo AF, fast frame rate, etc.

pelican case for me as well for items that are not used as much.\

items that are used on weekly base stored in LowePro Lens cases or original nikon lens cases.

modern lens will not get any problems with "growing" stuff inside. Especially when you have pro grade equipment that it already sealed properly.

I appreciate everyone's input. How about older lenses and minimizing problems such as condensation, mold, and fungus?

Fungacide packets are cheap compared to repair or replacement prices.

For "storage" I don't really "store" anything. But for awhile I needed to carry some stuff around to locations and stuff:

well if you dont have any longer lense then 80-200 AFD and only have let say 3 of them in total then just buy 1200 one and you will be set

they will take care of all problems with security

I had one and it would fit
80-200 D
18-70

I use a chest-type gun safe that is bolted to the floor. It stores my cameras, lenses including 300mm, 400mm, and 500mm canon lenses and all the lenses not in use, plus a bunch of guns. Security is paramount for storage.
Pelican and Lowepro bags for travel.
