When using a Nikon 14-24 for example on a Canon camera what adapters are best? Also, is there a conversion factor of some kind? Is it still 14-24 or does the lens stick out a little adding to the focal length? Sorry for the ignorant question but I keep hearing great things about that lens and I'm not totally happy with my 17-40L, I was thinking this would be an upgrade. How's the IQ with this set up?
This is best addressed in the alternative gear forum but to answer your question as I've done my research.
With the proper Nikon>EOS adapter14-24 will mount to any EOS body. It's strength lies iin mounting to a full frame body ie 5DII and it will still be a 14-24.
The best adapter seems to come from 16:9 www.16-9.net but they are pricey and his Version3 is on the way scheduled to ship in April.
IQ is acclaimed to be superb and I'll verify that Saturday as that's when my 14-24 is scheduled for delivery.
You should also consider the Contax 17-35 N - the N mount Zeiss Contax lenses once converted to EOS mount - act the same as a Canon "L" lens. Auto focus, full Metadata and really fine optics. I have one that performs significantly better than the 16:9 test of that lens. Zeiss colors and pop - a very good landscape lens and can be easily filtered.
