I've been planning to show you some results of experimenting I did last summer....when I used three Canon macro lenses to capture BIF shots of whatever was flying within severely reduced FL. I was hoping to gain from inherent macro lens sharpness, learn a bit more about the role of slow lens AF drive in the overal AF process, and also have some diversion and fun. The macro lenses I used were 180L, 100 f/2.8 and 60 f/2.8. Some of those shots I already shared on the Macro Forums and they "loved" them.
Pijuns, Mallards, geese and seagulls were generally used as test targets with a few notable (lucky) exceptions. Pijuns were particularly useful as test targets because they were accessible to short telephotos, they could fly fast and could be quite colourful.
Here are three shots obtained with EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro + 1DMkIIN, natural light, minimum pp.
