Can anyone who is using tethering tell me which cable they are using and where they got it from? BH has some but they are like $2-300!! They also have some which have power adapters and others that do not. I shoot in the studio and on location and use a macbook pro. I'd like to be able to run without the need to plug in to AC if possible. Oh yeah and I'm using Canon. Can anyone who might be doing this tell me what they are using?

I have a 10' extension cable that I just use with any regular usb camera cable. Works great for me.

Oh COOL!!!! Thanks so much. I do the same with my off camera cable. I found a mod on the net and I just cut the OC3 cable (scary!!) and then wired in to female ends. I can run as long a cat5 cable as I like to sync flash. Very cool. Thanks so much!

I got a 15 foot usb cable from the computer store for about $30 and it works perfectly.

Are you getting USB 2.0 speeds from this? The adapters I'm finding on ebay all seem to say High Speed but then list USB 1.1 in the specs...

Only powered USB extension cables that I've found reliable are made by 'tripp lite'. They're around $30.00. I use them with a 15' regular old 4.00 USB cable for a total reach of 30'.

Hi Sheldon,

I use these from Belkin, http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=160362

No issues what so ever and you can daisy chain up to four of them to give you about 25 metres. Tethered to 5D/40D.

I have used 2 of the 3 metre extension cables in the past with P+S type cameras but shooting raw tethered to my 5D/40D with more than one 3 m cable gives me issues.http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=18082

No worries,

I haven't seen these in Aus' yet but if your using SD cards it could be the go http://www.eye.fi/where-to-buy

I use a Canon SX10IS's for online auctions (lots of forklift drivers in lots of places taking lots of images of lots of crap for sale...) and will give these a go when they turn up down here.
