p.1 #1 · Question For Nude Shooters

Question for all the nude/bourdoir shooters out there. Are clients requesting this type of work or is this done for personal/practicing purposes? Looking to do a study of the female form and want to get some better ideas of what you do with the images? Do you take/send the final pics to a printhouse? Do you just archive them? Do the printhouses have any issues with printing semi-nude or nude photos? If a client asks about a bourdoir shoot, what kind of security are you promising them? How do you go about getting them printed and delivered? Would the coffee style book makers have an issue making a book full of nudes? Does everyone print them in house so that the security issue is fullfilled?

Thank you for your help, I really enjoy seeing all of the beautiful images, creativity and professionalism on this site!

Thanks for the link, some good info there. Anyone else want to weigh in on some personal experience shooting these types of shots?

p.1 #5 · Question For Nude Shooters

I just did a boudoir shoot and had an album printed with no problems at all. Now, the difference may be that I used a professional printer (WHCC) instead of shutterfly or wal-mart.

Unless you print everything yourself you can't really give any guarantees to your client after the files leave your computer. You have the legal backing of suing should your images be used without your permission (if you copyright them) but there's no way to guarantee that some disgruntled employee at a printhouse won't take those nude photos and post them all over. I highly doubt that would ever happen at a professional printer, thus no need to bring it up to a client who most likely wouldn't even think of something like that anyway and would just fret unneccesarily if you brought it up.

If you're wanting to do a form study I would suggest hiring (or doing a TFCD) with a model.

And yes, boudoir shoots are a hot item right now (especially right before Valentine's Day).

p.1 #6 · Question For Nude Shooters

In my case, it is certainly a mix of both. I've done a variety of TFCD/TFP shoots with local models for practice and portfolio, and have even been fortunate enough to have one of my paying clients (in trade for a couple prints she couldn't afford) sign a release to permit me to show SPECIFIC images to the public. The rest of my glamour, nude, boudiour stuff is strictly private, and protected for my own benefit as much as for my clients'. I do my own printing up to 13'' wide, and find that - so far at least - this format has served the needs of all of my private glamour clients. I've not had to do a book, or print larger than 13'' wide so far, and actually might be accused of promoting my discretion and privacy a little too well in that regard. I do have a local printer that has a 24'' printer and he does excellent work that I can actually make some money off of, and he does ALL of the work on the files I supply on a flash drive and returns the files to me. They never copy to his computer (even though this slows him down a little) so I never have to worry about them appearing anywhere that I don't consent to.

I'm not sure where I would go for books or larger prints, but will certainly look into that more if the need arises.

Best wishes!

I also use WHCC and have never had a problem. The only nude sessions ive had were with models that sign a copyright relese form to allow me to do what I will with the images. All these models have found me through various places where they have seen nude portraits I have taken. These sessions are treated differently than my normal sessions. I never trouch a model when shooting nude, no hands, no shoulder, not anything. I always encourage them to bring someone along. I also require a state issued id for anyone that looks younger than 30.

Very good points! I appreciate the feedback. Figured I would get some answers right before Valentines Day! I asked about the book printing because I would like to showcase some of the shots to promote the boudoir shoots and obviously have some prints too. Do all of you mostly shoot in your own studios or do you get requests for location shoots too?
