I don't see too much different then my settings except for CF III-2 (AI servo tracking sensitivity). I have mine set between 0 and Slow. I think it's too jumpy in the middle. Other than microadjustment and going from 45 points to 19 (CF III-10), I can't think of much else you can do.

Interesting I did a quick and dirty try with my 24-105. Used the ring of fire, and focussed using the centre AF point on the coner of a chair at 45 degree angle to the camera, then slowly moved towards it so that the corner moved out towards the edge of the AF oval and kept the shutter button planted at 10fps.
Every shot came out with the corner of the chair in focus, very weird. I'll try a real world test tomorrow, but I think it might just be restricted to the 500mm. Maybe that's just because the DOF is exteremly shallow and accurate AF is essential and is perhaps showing the problem up more than the 24-105?
I had installed the new software and it worked fine in AI servo on the lenses that I tried it on, however I did not try it on the 500/4 until I read your post. Worked fine with and without the 1.4x, no MA, however mostly static subjects as there are no birds around today.
Do you have the ability to focus on static subjects in AI servo?
I'm seeing the same problem -- way front focused in AI servo mode, 24-70. 1.0.4 was OK focus wise, although i had some minor issues with tracking of receding subjects when thay passed behind something large. After installing 1.0.6 it's so far out I wondered if I had chosen a wrong focus point. I hope they can release 1.0.4 somewhere....
When you say it didn't work well what exactly do you mean by it didn't work well? Also could you post some examples? Also finally could it be a behavior change in the AF and not a problem.
Haven't used the MK IV with the 500 yet extensively with 1.06, but what I have used it for has worked very well, including Servo stuff.
So for now, and until I do "thorough" testing, no problems here.
I've emailed Canon, so i'll keep you posted if I get a response:-
"Hi XXX
I have been given your contact details from a friend, so I hope you don’t mind that I have emailed you directly.
I'm writing following the update to the firmware to my new 1D MkIV to the new version 1.0.6.
I am having issues with regard to the AF servo tracking, although initially this seems to be limited to using with the 500mm F4L. The cameras simply totally fails to track anything moving.
I have carried out tests with my other lenses - 24-105L and 100mm Macro L, and it appears to work fine with these lenses. Servo focussing on static subjects with the 500mmm also appears to be fine.
Is it possible for the previous 1.0.4 firmware to be made available, so that I can see if this will resolve the issue? Alternatively, do you suggest that I return the camera to Park Cameras for a replacement, or directly to Canon as I am a CPS member (UKXXXXXXXRS)?
Wonder what the chances of Canon sticking to this part of the terms of conditions of the firmware? Let's hope not!
"THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO THE QUALITY AND PERFORMANCE OF THE SOFTWARE IS WITH YOU. SHOULD THE SOFTWARE PROVE DEFECTIVE, YOU (AND NOT CANON, CANON’S SUBSIDIARIES AND AFFILIATES, THEIR DISTRIBUTORS AND DEALERS) ASSUME THE ENTIRE COST OF ALL NECESSARY SERVICING, REPAIR OR CORRECTION."

Given the MkIII focus debacle, I'd be amazed if they enforce that clause.
BTW, I still have the original firmware on my MkIV. If someone can tell me if it's possible to extract it, I'd be happy to do that and make it available.
Again, I was reviewing the images from last Sunday and out of 400+ shots I may have 20-30 usable, I have entire sequences out of focus…… sorry Canon but this is unacceptable
I just popped out and tried shooting several long 10fps bursts of moving cars with the 24-105. Initial results looking at the LCD look fine. Clearly this is a different ball game to the 500mm as DOF is naturally much deeper at F4 @ 105mm and at distance (didnt want to get run over!). I'll have to pixel peep when I get home to my desktop and see for sure.
Can I ask a bit of a dumb question. With the ring of fire and servo selected, am I supposed to get a flashing af focus point to confirm focus or is that with a selected AF point only?
