Hi Craig.

I bought the ZE 25 expecting to play with it for a bit and then let it go since I already had the ZE 21 & 35... It is still here after two years and is among my most used lenses. The ZE 28 was not as highly touted, but I have not tried it either.

Cheers

Owned the 21mm three different times. One of the all-time favorites from Zeiss. Love that lens!

I just read this review about the 28mm f/2 ZF.2, and this might cement it for me. It's $400 less expensive than the 25 right now.

http://blog.mingthein.com/2012/07/19/zf28distagon/

Ming's review of the 100/2 pretty much inspired me to go for the 100/2 MP.

[edit0 Then again, I just read this review of the 25/2...

...and now I feel stuck again.

I have a set from Kenko, 12-20-36 mm. Feels a bit plastic but they work well.

Yup. It have been there four times now. Each year the ongoing decay is apparent. Not only due to natural causes; there are still imbeciles who steal or demolish parts.

Very nice light in your lighthouse shot. I wouldn't mind a reduction in sharpening halos though

Thanks input .. Think that's is very easy to get the halo, and they are more visible after sharpning..
Thankful for hints regarding the editing of this particular phenomenon
Looks it better now? Have made an effort to correct

GAH! I'm driving myself mad.

What to do? What to do?

I have the 100/2 MP, and now I want something wider. The 21/2.8 is off the list (for now - too expensive), as I'd love this next lens mostly for documentary (weddings)/street photography, and some environmental/landscape secondarily.

Do I get the 25/2 ZF.2 or the 28/2 ZF.2? I want a fast aperture, especially when I photograph people up close.

Both seem to be highly regarded. The IQ from what I've seen is stellar in both. The question comes down to focal length, and where it fits within my three

Craig - you can browse images by particular lens on the www.zeissimages.com web site. Click on Photos and then Lens Browser in the drop-down menu. From there, you can select a particular lens and view images that people have posted with that lens. Images are posted by all kinds of photographers, so there will be a range of image types. The guy who runs the site does a lot of street photography, although I don't know offhand if he uses the two lenses that you are considering.

In looking back through a lot of my images, my 25mm f/2.8 ZF has been used enough that I just bought the ZF.2 version while on sale. Although I don't do a lot of street photography, I can tell you that the 25mm renders beautifully and captures fine detail very well.

Edit: I reread your comment and see that you are considering the 25mm f/2, not the f/2.8 that I have. Supposedly, the f/2 is a little better than the f/2.8. It will be interesting to hear what you decide.

Yes it looks better - if I remember the old version correctly.

Sharpening algorithms increase edge contrast, making the bright side of an edge brighter and the dark side darker. I made my own sharpening algorithm, which shifts the balance to the dark side. More darkening at the dark side and less brightening at the bright side. This reduces the halos and works well in > 90% of my cases. The bad news is that I programmed it in Matlab, which is not available to most people.

Brilliant, Adele. Thanks for the link. A few days ago I was really leaning towards the 28/2, now, after watching Prisoner of Azkaban, which was shot with lenses ranging from 14mm to 24, I'm kinda leaning to the 25 for a wider cinematic field of view. Even up close it would create a wonderful look, especially wide open.

But I keep wondering - will those 3mm make a wide-angle difference either way? Ugh!
